SoA compatibility problems w/ ToB?

    I'm not sure if this question should be posted here or in the ToB area but I'm putting it here because I am playing SoA and am not done.

    I bought ToB yesterday and installed it. I was playing in Underdark at the time. I really didn't know what to expect but all that happened is that when I leveled up I got some really powerful new spells. There was also a new area on the map. I played the game for an hour or so with no difficulties and shut it off. Later I tried to play and SoA was gone and ToB would not activate just that first screen that asks that has icons for play etc... my old game was gone. All the files were still there if I went in and looked but I couldn't start the game. I should also point out that I'm computer illiterate.

    What I want to know is did I screw something up when I installed the new disc or is this a known problem? (I searched the other forum but didn't find anything) I'm not finished SoA but would like to have the new spells and such in my current game. Any tips?

    I could definitely be wrong here, so take it for what it's worth....

    However, I think that you screwed up.. perhaps not irretrievably, but maybe so. By installing TOB during an SOA game and then opening the SOA game, you may have mixed up some of the files...

    If it were me, I would try to fix the problem this way and hope for the best...
    1. Deinstall both games after saving off the game files to a temporary directory....
    2. Reinstall SOA...
    2a. (if you ar efeeling froggy and time is not an issue) Reinstall TOB...
    3. Recopy the game files back to the appripriate directory - SaveGame or MPS...
    4. Try to play the game again...
    (5. only if 2a was not done - Reinstall TOB)

    It sounds like something screwed up, but I don't believe it's your fault. I installed ToB and finished SoA from a previous save with absolutely no problems.

    I did the same also without problems. The main icon is different, but I can choose playing SoA OR ToB, both with WK, and after choosing I get the saves of SoA or ToB. My only problem was with the Jaheira romance, but I got rid of it by removing the Jaheira.bcs file from the override directory until I finished SoA.
