    ... might have to be disqualified from the next edition of "The World's Most Eligible Bachelors," due to, ahem, some engagement or other that came up. The guy seems quite set on it, too. .

    Jokes aside, congrats, it looks like a nice couple, and I think most people would appreciate an extra holiday. Still, UK posters here - and anyone else who cares to comment - do you care about this? Do you enjoy the news, or do you think it's all a waste of time.

    Technically, through some vague loop-hole, William is actually a Prince of New Zealand as well as Great Britain so I guess I should be excited. Better go buy an ornamental plate with Will and Kate's face on it.

    Well, chances are, William and Kate represent the only possibility in my lifetime of seeing both a King and Queen on the British throne. The last time there was a king and queen on the throne were Elizabeth II's parents - which was long before I was born. Charles won't have a queen, and chances are he won't have a very long reign either. Queen Elizabeth may be alive for quite a long time yet. She's in pretty good health, and heck, the Queen Mother just died several years ago when she was about 100 or so years old!

    What Barmy said. The monarchy is an outdated institution that I find, in fact, quite offensive. I would like nothing better than for Canada to cut the tie with the monarchy and become a republic. But that would cost too much. But seriously, what frigging good does the monarchy do anyone these days, other than provide fodder for the tabloids. And there's plenty of non-royalty around to do that.

    I don't know about monarchy, we got rid of ours by giving a little help to Unca Lenin...

    Like many others, I don't really care. I have no problem with the British monarchy, as people or as an institution, but nor do I give them any more respect than I do anyone else. Still, congrats and enjoy the nuptuals!

    I don't know if he is. The Queen is definitely Queen of New Zealand, but William is Price on Wales - and nothing else, as far as I can tell.

    Yeah Morgy, I kinda like our royal family. And perhaps because of that, I like other (constitutional) monarchies as well. Dunno why. Probably something to do with traditions and culture. And I don't feel like our monarchy is totally useless.
