I apologize in advance if this is against the rules as far as legality of doing it is concerned. As far as im concerned, software on my computer is mine to be played with how i want.

I a moderator or admin has any problem with this post they can feel free to delete it. Until then...

Skill points arent currently allowed to be "saved" unless its <= 1. I've found out how to change it to allow you to save all your skill points if you so desire. Unfortunately, you still have to spend all skill points at level 1, but after that, save em till your heart's content.

Below is description of method, at the bottom i will post simplified instructions for people who are used to hex editing.

This method requires a hex editor:

    go to 0x1E2155. It should read 0F 9E C2

Change these three numbers to B2 01 90

save as IWD2.2.exe so as to not overwrite your original.

    Here are simplified instructions:

    at 0x1E2155
    replace
    Code:
    0F 9E C2
    with
    Code:
    B2 01 90

Can explain what this all means? What does saving skill points mean?

say you gain 4 skill points per level up. the game forces you to spend 3 of these at least to continue with the level up. In NWN, the game allows you to save the skill points for your next level up. or the one after that, etc.

This makes it so that the skill points from levelups (the points put into alchemy, k(arcana), hide, etc) can be saved until you want to use them.

say you start the game as a cleric. you spend all those first points in concentration and whatnot. Then you squat taking 4 fighter levels all at once... The game would make you spend those skill points. With this, you could keep your skill points until your next cleric level up so that you could put points into concentration or whatever at the cleric's cost instead of at cross-class costs.

Wow. That's the silliest thing I've ever read.

Not bad. Highly multiclassed charecters dont need to spend points on cross-class skills then when they level up in another class.

Does the game automatically use the new file, or do you need to make any other changes?

well, you have to change the values at that address and then run the game using the new executable is all.

if you dont want to change shortcuts or anything, rename your original IWD2.EXE to IWD2.BAK and then rename IWD2.2.exe to IWD2.EXE :p that way anything opening iwd via iwd2.exe will open the modified executable.
