    Call me daft monkey, but - what the hell does [sic] mean? I see it used all the time, especially online when someone is quoting another person. But all throughout highschool and college I never saw it used even once, and now every time I see it it makes my brain itch. The only thing I can think of is that it stands for "said in context," thus forgiving the quoter for the language mangling of the quotee. But otherwise I have no idea.

    Please help me be less dumb. Hopefully :hmm: + :book: = :idea:

    The use of [sic] is often a smarmy way of saying "Look, look, I spotted a mistake that someone made. I'm so clever and they are not". One should be very careful that you only use it extreme circumstances.

    It's just when someone else made a spelling mistake, and you're quoting it directly but making it clear it's not your spelling error... basically.

    Idiots who think they are smater than everyone else use it. Pompous twats.
