I found the ending of the Drawing of the Dark to be a bit of a letdown though. I preferred his other work, The Anubis Gates.

    Time Powers, Declare

Mary Doria Russell, The Sparrow (but not the sequel, it almost spoils the first book)

Neal Stephenson trilogy, Quicksilver, The Confusion, The System of the World - but they are long, long, long, especially all three together; I also highly recommend his books Snow Crash and Cryptomonicon (which is sort of a pre-sequel to the aforementioned trilogy)

And tomorrow I'd have a different list. But these are all books I'd highly recommend, because they combine intricate plotting, elements of science fiction and fantasy, in the case of Powers and Stephenson some intriguing alternate history. The Powers book is the only one with battle scenes, though they are not your usual battle scene even there.
