I would like to know if it is usefull to combine several classes in your TNO or you should pick one and stick with it.
Because there are useful melee buffs as a mage, but you can't use most of the weapons as a mage and and you can't use spells as a fighter.

Another thing I'd like to know if it is true that you get more interesting dialoge options as a mage and if they are in general dialogues or in dialogues with important charcters.

Make roleplaying decisions, you can play the game any way you like.

Sometimes (less than once per chapter) you get extra dialogue options when talking from mage to mage, but the same applies to thief and fighter talking to one of the same class.
So for dialogues mage isn't generally better than thief or fighter, one of your stats (mostly wisdom), not your class is usually checked for dialogue options. There are many interesting dialogues in the game.

Changing your class has both advantages and drawbacks. If you play mage or thief you can benefit from some fighter boosts (more HP, weapon specialisation, extra half attack if you have 7+ fighter levels), but thieving and casting skills are inactive when playing another class.
When a mage or thief or fighter joins your party (or you meet a trainer) you can switch classes to test if (s)he can teach you some spells/thievery or fighting and switch back afterwards.

It's beneficial (but not essential) if the first class which reaches level 7 is also the first to reach level 12.

You can level in all three once you know how, and I would recommend taking several levels of each profession -- then branch out to do what you want. Class sometimes makes good dialog options, I found that having a decent intelligence and/or charisma usually gave excellent results for dialog.

This game is very different from others of the genre in that your main character cannot use abilities of different classes at the same time. The Nameless One is a unique character, he shifts between classes completely -- he is either a mage, fighter, or thief at any one time.

There is one central character who really likes it if your a mage, but being a mage is not essential to get a good result from that person (or ... thing ...).

maybe a stupid question, but who or what could that be? I am playing the game for the first time, and am currently a mage.

You're not going to meet him/her/it for a while, so don't worry about it :) Besides if you plan on staying mostly as a mage you won't have a problem.

I believe T2 was referring to Ravel.

thanks for the reply, wasn't really a spoiler for me as I have already met her. Although she kind of liked the NO, I did not believe it was because he was a mage. Or does she say different things when I'm using another class?

Most of the conversation will be the same, but some of bits when you ask her to teach you the Art, and the items you get from her, will depend on whether you're a Mage or not.

What you get from her is not very important and when you've 13+ cha you can ask her to teach you whether you're a mage or not and get the same items (which aren't really useful btw).
The only real advantage of being a mage at this point is that you can cast "friends" before initiating dialogue with her if you have low cha.

A mage will also get a bit more experience from the encounter (if you have a high charisma as well). Charming her is a quick way to some major boosts in experience and wisdom (but you don't have to be a mage for that). I thought Ravel was one of the most interesting encounters in the game.
