I have a terrible habit of playing too many games at once, but I thought I would give IWD2 a run anyways. I'm using the NPC mod and so my party is definitely not powergamed, but here it is:

    1) Human Battlecleric, 18 in Str, Con, and Wis

    2) Human Monk

    3) Human Paladin

    4) Drow Fighter

    5) Gnome Wizard

    6) Halfling Rogue

My question is about multi-classing the rogue to wizard. He started with 16 int. and so he would be good for it, but looking at the old threads it seems like you only get scrolls to learn new spells for wizards. Is this true? And if it is, would having two wizards create a shortage of good spells to go around?

I seem to recall there being not as many scrolls as I would have liked, but it really doesn't matter if you also take a sorcerer. Don't dual the rogue to wizard (although a dual to ranger is fun). Drop one of the warriors for a sorcerer.

There are enough scrolls in the game to support two wizards if you share them wisely. I recommend dualing the rogue to specialist wizard instead of normal wizard for the extra spells per day (you already have a pure wizard who can cast all spells), the higher level version of this NPC is dualed to diviner, transmuter is also a good choice.

Don't wizards also get to pick a few spells at level up? Wouldn't that help make up for the lack of scrolls?

I would take the sorcerer but for some reason he bugs the crap out of me. Not to mention I don't enjoy my male npc being hit on by other males. The gnome is an illusionist so i'll probably pick the school that has illusion as it's prohibited school. I was considering specializing my battlecleric in enchantments and making the rogue a rogue/ranger- that way I could get the most out of sneak attacks, but I could always just give the drow a few levels in rogue for the same purpose considering he starts with the dual-wielding feats.

If they can pick a couple spells at level up that would be great, it would really suck to have only 1-2 spells at every level due to scarcity of scrolls.

Wizards can't pick spells as they level up but there are plenty of scrolls available.

Hmm... I must be thinking of ToEE then. Been a while since I played either of them.
