Safecracker is a game I got as a late present. I'm stuck on a critical puzzle that I can't figure out. I'm hoping someone here can guide me through how to get the pieces in the right spots.

    Sliding puzzle picture

The knobs turn 4 pieces in a clockwise direction. The knob in the lower right corner moves the squares labeled 1-4. I need to get squares 1 and 2 swapped while leaving the rest of the puzzle the way it is. Now, usually I'd get a flathead screwdriver and some vaseline... but this is a virtual puzzle.

I've tried for an hour and barely managed to get it where it is now. The trouble is each knob can move overlapping pieces, so it's not like other sliding puzzles.
