    There's currently a project taking place to buy the house that J.R.R. Tolkien lived a part of his life in. They're asking for 6 million USD and apparently have already secured 9% of the funds.

    Personally, I think that the current owner of the house (no relation to the Tolkiens) has inflated the price way beyond its actual worth, but it's also clear to me that the emotional appeal to the fans to "save" Tolkien's house has a far greater chance of succeeding than if they'd asked the them to donate towards building a new, proper and cheaper museum.

    Also, the project to me seems to lack the kind of enthusiasm and obvious rewards for backers that we're used to seeing in successful Kickstarters. I haven't even seen any mention of any kind of recognition for the backers inside the house itself, which is odd.

    Edit: scratch that, apparently there is going to be a book or several books with the donors' names inside the house, but there was no mention of this in their FAQ.

    Would you, or are you going to donate? ;)
