    I recently installed Icewind Dale (no expansions or anything) and after a search of the forum the only patch updates require that I sign up for a monthly fee to download the patch. Is there not an official game patch offered by Black Isle?

    Do you refer to "fileplanet" when you click the link to download the patch ? if so then no. just scroll downward and you get some "free" servers, that you do not have to pay for downloading from.

    The pay thing is just to get acess to their BIG and GOOD servers, and no waiting time, instead of the anoying script that makes you have to wayt 30 min every time you click on a download for free.
