The self-defeating spells I must point out are shadow door and mislead. When I played Bg2 for the first time and watch someone cast the shadow door spell, I was completely fooled, for a second. Until I read the text...blah blah casted Shadow Door. That really ruined everything. I mean why do they report the casting of these supposedly fooling spell? I mean if they said instead, Blah Blah casted Dimension door, I would have been totally fooled and the shadow door spell would have served it's purpose, to make the enemy believe that they have zapped out. And also on mislead, I have to admit it is a great spells, but it has some flaws. Again, they report the castings of it, thus effectively defeating the 'misleading' propose and another thing. How come when an enemy mage cast a spell after he has cast mislead, he does not become partially visible and also his mislead copies him in casting a spell but when WE cast the mislead spell, the mislead does not copy us casting a spell? I also thought the text says that the caster will be teleported a few distance away and the illusion will take his place, but it is infact vice-vasa? On some worthless high-level spells, does it ever occur to any of you that spells like Mantle, improved mantle and Absolute immunity are over shadowed by protection from magical weapons? I mean compare the absolute immunity, which protects the caster from +4 downwards and protection from magical weapons, which protects the caster from ANY magical weapons be it +100 or +1, as long as it is magical. So isn't it a waste of those lvl 7,8 and 9 spell which a level 6th spell could suffice? Correct me if I am wrong in anything...

Yeah I agree. But it doesnt really matter as there is a way around most spells anyway.

Your thinking on the protection from magical weapons spells is almost correct. It would seem that protection from magical weapons would be a better spell than absolute immunity until you consider that protection from magical weapons does not protect you from normal ones whereas the others do. So don't go around thinking you are impervious, any creature with normal weapons will still be able to hit you.

PS: You can't have both protection from normal weapons and protection from magical weapons in effect on the same character at the same time.
