Yeah... I was curious, what would I need to make an NPC party member? Romance and everything, perhaps even some new items just for him. So, any ideas?

    You need:
    Creature Maker
    IDU - Infinity Dialog Editer
IEEP - Infinity Engine Editer Pro
And some other things I'll add as I find out

I don't know everything you need and If anyone has made a successful romance could they tell me?

You evidently haven't heard of the Kesley romance, or the Sofulain (??) romance. Kelsey was a new character, and Sofulain was originally a minor character.

[IMG] There's already a Topic on this IIRC.
But anyway, designing NPC's is easy. You'll need the tools that 8People suggested above:
They can all be had from Team BG , as well a tutorial on making things.
But i'll give it here anyway, Im currently writing a NPC, ITEM and SPELL making Tutorial to send into SP, so watch out for that.

Baldurs Gate II (for making Characters - NPC's)
Infinity Dialog Editor (for making the Dialog's you have with NPC's.
Creature Maker (for converting Characters into CREature files.
Infinity Engine Editor Pro (for making custom Spells, Items amognst other things)

That's the basic tools, find a simple tutorial at Teambg's.

[edit] Kelsey, Solaufein and Tashia are all new NPC/romances that can be downloaded. They're of very good quality, with plenty of banter and romance dialogs. Get them from various sites (including Sorcerers Place)

Yes, I know that I've got 'em.

I don't know how to add the music or do the cutscenes though, damn, I bet it's really simple and I've just missed it...

I advise you visit this forum: http://forums.forgottenwars.net/index.php?board=13

It has some nice tutorials on making NPCs, plus it has tutorials on WeiDU.
After chewing it all, if you have any specific question, you may post it here on SP.

8people, to make a cutscenes and attached music (like in romances), you must learn scripting language. And it is not simple like making items, believe me.

Just wanted to ring in here:

Yes, please, you will want to learn WeiDU for serious work. The tutorials are a little scattered across the spectrum, but between the tutorials and being able to read through the code in major projects like Kelsey, Tashia, Solaufein and now Ascension/WeiDU, I think it is a very "learnable" system.

We (both WeiDU's creator, Westley Weimer, and his disciples) have been trying to improve the quality and thoroughness of the documentation so it doesn't all read like what it started out as: a computer science manual. :)

We (Ghreyfain and I, creators of Kelsey) learned from experience that IDU is simply not cut out for serious work that needs to be shared. Don't be fooled by the GUI: extending existing dialogue elements is very difficult, and packaging IDU work for distribution requires using the TBG/IAP format for dialogue, which creates compatibility problems with other mods.

Basically, there are a lot of things that ONLY WeiDU can do. Cleanly and compatibly add dialogue to anybody's game, patch 2DA files, append to existing game scripts, and more.

It's really not accidental that all of the new original NPC projects (Kelsey, Tashia, and Solaufein, plus the upcoming Rowan, Keto, Chloe, Callista, and Scarab NPCs) use WeiDU.

Kelsey, as ever, is at http://www.forgottenwars.net/kelsey

JC, is this some kind of commercial? :toofar:;):p

Ok, that's true, without WeiDU you can't even think about some serious things, not to mention mods compatibility.

But for a newbie in process I'd still recommend TeamBG's "fancy" tools. When you magistrate with those, you'll easily convert anything to WeiDU.

... This really isn't the picnic I was hoping for. Try, try again though. Where can I find WeiDu?
(edit:) Nevermind. Any tips? (End Edit)
