NPC Making Tutorials

My, aren't I talkative tonight? Anyways, I was wondering if anybody knows where I can find a tutorial for NPC making. Y'know, the sort that joins the team, has their own little mini-quest, possibly a romance... I'm just aching to make one! Anywho, yeah, any advice, like what tools I'd need, and what the heck to do, would come in handy.

Strictly speaking all you NEED to pull this off is WeiDU and a text editor, but you will be greatly benefitted by adding Near Infinity and Infinity Explorer to the mix. InfExp will be of greater use to you if you go with the beta version that supports mod-created DLG files, which I can provide.

 

Well, that's cool. I'm trying to find a wide range of tutorials, or tutorial-like things, such as command lists and their usage, examples, and whatnot. And this doesn't cover romances, I noticed, which is a distinct possibility in my character.

 

There isn't an NPC tutorial there, but http://tutorials.teambg.net/ is something of a definitive resource for tutorials.

Koveras, the structure for romance dialogue can be gleaned relatively easily by examining the in-game romance scripts, such as AERIE.BCS.

The basic structure is:

If the romance is alive and the LOVETALK counter is an odd number, run a timer.

If that timer exprires, increment LOVETALK to an even number and Interact().

If we've done that, increment LOVETALK to an odd number.

Repeat.

There are more conditions if you like (such as "don't run romance dialogue in a dungeon") but those are author's choice.
