In my humble opinion, multiplayer in Baldurs Gate is very poorly done. I tried it once via GameSpy, and it ended up being 6 people all wanting to go in a different direction. Seeing as you need to be really careful with where you step at certain points in the game, I think your gameplay experience will be much better if you play it on your own.

The only exception I would make is if you play with friends in the same room. I believe communication is much better then, rather than if you are doing it via voice chat.

I did it that way with a friend in BG2, and we actually made it quite far before we stopped playing it.

Which is another point, I would believe you have a much bigger chance of actually completing the game if you play it solo, as if you need to rely on someone from the internet, things may drag on for a while. :-)

Like I said in the beginning, this is all my own thoughts regarding multi player, if anyone has had positive experiences with the multiplayer part, please tell!
