    Hey Guys,
A few months ago I was in Walmart looking for a new game to try. I ended up purchasing Baldurs Gate II and Icewind Dale. Ive tried each 2-3 times, but I always end up dieing. Im coming at RPGs with years and years of FPS and strategy playing, so RPGs are a definite change of pace for me. To be honest, Im lost. No idea what to do, what stratigies to use, the manuals arent of much help. Was wondering if anyone can give some tips for me starting out in IWD, and maybe just RPGs in general. Have read previous tips, but looking for more. Thanks alot.

There's been some other threads on this.

Turn on all the autopause functions. That'll make it a 'turn based' game for a while, but when you start to get the hang of it, you can shut down all the pauses.

Thac0 (To Hit Armour Class 0) makes the difference whether you actually hit the target or not, regardless of how much damage you do. At first, pay attention to your Thac0 more that how much damage you're dealing out. Hitting your target with all your people at the same time racks up damage.

Equip everyone with a range weapon. Slings or Bows. Gather all your people up into a sweep line (the opposite of a 'single file line') and send one person forward. As soon as you spot a single enemy, lure him back to your people. The range weapons will fire a couple of times, then switch to melee and finish off whatever it is.

I use the 'fighter 1' script on all my people, and if I need to cast spells, I do it manually.

First time through, it'll be easier for you to keep track of single class characters. A fighter, thief, mage, paladin, cleric are good choices.

Have fun! (no matter what anyone else tells you) If you are getting frustrated with the start, cheat. Cheat like all-get-out.
