Obsidian has released Patch 1.04 and version 1.07 of the autoupdater. Here are the notes:

Neverwinter Nights 2 – Version 1.04 Patch Notes
    January 15th, 2007

    New Features
    General
    • Voice Menu
Users can now press the Voice Menu key (‘V’ by default) to activate a menu from which they can quickly access frequently used voice commands and emotes. Users can drag these to the hotbar, as well.
    • Added support for bindable keys to change the hotbar pages.
    • You can now drag and drop buttons from the Mode Bar and Quick Cast Menu onto the Hotbar. This will also work for Spontaneously Converted spells.
    • Players now have the option to turn on a second horizontal hotbar and 2 vertical hotbars.
    • Users can now select in the options menu whether or not they want left click and hold in Driving Camera to move the character or mouselook.
    • All combat modes can now be triggered instantly, except for Parry, Rapid Shot, and Flurry of Blows, which are deferred until the beginning of the next round.
o Your pending combat modes are now displayed on the action queue UI, with a countdown ticker, tooltip, and mouse click support.
o You can now toggle of and off a pending combat mode.
o Combat modes are no longer turned off for party members at the end of their combat round.
    • Trees throughout the game should look better as many of the tree textures and models have been revamped to be more visually appealing.
    • Localized versions of the NWN1 sounds used in the game have been added to their respective languages.
    • Several new loading screen tips have been added to v1.04.

    DM Client
    • DMs can now drag items from the creator menu to the hotbar.
    • DMs can now jump directly to an area.

    • Improvements have been made which reduce load times in some situations.
    • The game will no longer crash when attempting to buy when on a blank page.
    • The game’s transition to Act 2 would very rarely fail to occur. This has been made more reliable.
    • Dual-wield slots will now persist on the hotbar during module transitions.
    • Holding the left mouse button to move will now function properly in all camera modes and angles.
    DM Client

Is that the keyboard with the LCD display? I remember wondering when I read about it if any game developers will actually bother utilizing the display.

What sort of useful NWN2 information could possibly show on that little 3cm blck and white display that you couldn't already see on your 91 inch colour monitor?

I am elated. If I could only get it to work. Of course it does _not_ work with my game. I get this report when my update utility fails to update:
If I'm not mistaken, there is not even something like a critical rebuild for NWN2 available at all. Anyway: Obsidian's helpful advice: "Run the Update Utility"

Oh really .... However, there is this link to Atari's page. The fun continues. When I now choose Atari's NWN2 page, in hope to find a downloadable patch there, there of course is nothing of that sort. They just listed the game to add a blank with, uh, nothing at all in terms of downloadable support there. Thank you. But then, what for? After all, they updated the updater, too!

Product support for NWN2 is ... better don't get me started.

Ragusa@: Er... You didn't just start?

Glad to hear about the update, now if I can be f***** dealing with the updater, I might get it.
I have a realy bad track record with updates, it usuly takes hours to download, then stops in the last 5 minutes because of a file corruption. It realy gets me steamed.

I have the game for a month now, got it as a gift for christmas, and I updated it to v1.3 manually, because actually I never got the online updater to work. And I did have the preposterous 6GB of free disc space available to alow for the patch to decompress.

Offline updating works reasonably well, but you only get the stuff you need from third parties. It's a disgrace for Obsidian/ Atari that even on their board the mods are simply referring to customer efforts to get that done. The person doing all the work on offline-updating on Obsidian's boards, and referred to by Obsidian staff, is a user by the name of TNT2. When I posted about exactly my previous rant, I got this reply
At least the reply was swift.

Much like the poor manual is supposed to inspire purchase of an official game guide, the idea behind online updating is IMO to eliminate need for hosting files, and ultimately achieve more sales by making it harder to update pirated copies. That however, backfires when even legit products don't work properly.
It think that is a deliberate cost-cutting measure. After all, it works, somehow. The customers take care of themselves, and one less thing for Obsidian/ Atari to worry about or spend money on. Obsidian/ Atari customer service is next to non-existent as soon as your problem involves the auto-updater.

NWNVault is a good source for offline patches, as they offer offline patchers and the zipped patches for download, among other things.

    **********************************************

PS: Maybe my last posts were coloured by my current grumpyness, but by mere accident, I got the online patcher to work.

I tried running the game's update utility offline on an un-zipped patch file, which failed. I had switched off my router for that purpose.

When I switched it on again, neither the updater nor my browser found a connection. Nothing serious. I set my browser to automatic proxy recognition as a connection modus, as opposed to the usual 'direct connection to internet'. I sometimes need to do that to force my computer to find the router.

Suddenly, in proxy mode, the updater worked.

Which is a nice and reassuring thing as I can now delete some 400MB of offline patching gear I was forced to store, to get the game running.
    • In direct connection mode I got the previous report:
    • In proxy mode it worked, generating this:
So it seems that internet connection settings do have an effect on the functionality of the updater.

If the updater fails, changing your connection modi might help.

Ragusa, in my oh so humble opinion, the whole thing is about cost-cutting. Pulling the plug on NWN1, releasing a bugged game, changing minimal requirements when people had already preordered the game, maintaining the fiction that those requirements are real. Seen their low FPS help thread in the technical forums? People don't get half the framerate the devs maintain they should be getting with that kind of hardware. Here. I believe 20 fps on a high-end system is not acceptable with any settings. And I'm not talking about mine. Mine is not high-end and I get around 30 (although the looks don't justify the framerate and it's not like I have very high settings), but people with Dual Cores and cards in the upper range of the GeForce 7 series have reported twenties.

Yeah. It comes with tools that show the date/time, the CPU and memory usage, media controls (I don't use it so I don't know exactly what it will do for you), and a countdown timer and stopwatch. And you can rotate between them on a set time, or use a button on the keyboard to switch between them.

For NWN2 what it shows is for the "possessed" party member, and it shows the name, current ability scores (so for example if you're poisoned or under a spell like Bull's Strength you can immediately see what the effect was), party gold, and I think one more thing (maybe class and level?).

    I like it! :)
