    NWN 2 Impressions

Its just a shame the new complaints are so obvious to us and not so much to OEI QA at the time. :(

The thing about this that was annoying was that the devs listened to the request for more hotbars, but the changed the way hotbars were accessed and no one asked for that. Because an experienced NWN1 player would use their right hand for mouse movement and their left to shift/ctrl numerous hotbar keys simultaneously. Initially, NWN2 required mousing all over the place, which doesn't work in real-time battle efficiently.

Nice re-cap. I liked it. But one thing I think hurt NWN2 a little (don't get me wrong, I love the game) was that the OEI devs and QA people weren't really experienced NWN1 players, IMO. Because some changes were a bit of a setback gameplay wise.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but you have to remember that the QA people and the devs are professional game makers and a large number of them have played NWN for years. Many of the NWN players look at things from a very narrow viewpoint, and I feel that is what you are doing now. You base your expectations from the narrow view of a NWN player, and not as a game player. Whereas the dev team looks at game development from the perspective of many different games played and made. The customer perspective is not necessarily the same as what is portrayed on these forums. These forums only make up a small part of the community, and the community itself is only a small part of who buys the game.

For every person that likes a feature, there is another that doesn't. To think that, just because you don't agree with the way a feature was implemented, that the majority of the community or especially the customer base is in agreement is not even close to reality. The market is much broader than this website or these forums.

But its curious where else game makers get their data...

    The local lunatic asylum.

"So, what do you want in our next game?"

"Nyahh nyahh dribble mouse-click delay ugly haircuts dribble."

Though seriously I'd love an answer on this. If the entire market is in disagreement then logically the developers should just ignore it and make the game how they planned to start with.
Polls of gamers, Questions put to people to find out why they don't play NWN1 anymore - what they liked and didn't like, Market research from the publisher, Personal experience, Feedback from game playtesters, Beta testers, Forum Archives. There's a lot of feedback and information out there and almost none of it agrees on anything.

So the lunatic asylum guess was spot on? :p
    Pretty much.

Seriously though, I'm probably going to adjust to the new menu and inventory systems pretty quick. My main concern is basically that melee combat is bland and uninteresting.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the animations get more frequent and better looking once you get to higher levels and get more attacks per round.
Yep. At low levels your animations will be really bland and slow. At higher levels they will just be bland, but quicker! :)

Full Spellbook = Can't level up?
This is an old bug that was fixed previously, but seems to have made a reappearance. Should be fixed in the 1.06 final, but it may not make it into the 1.06 beta.

    Mod-making Contest #2
We plan on having many more mod-making contests... but not just mod-making contests.

I think next up will be something for the non-builders out there.

Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if the release of the Granny tools prompts a little something.

    Stay tuned.
