[IMG] I have been reading about the option to form my own party using the Multi-Player function. How does this work please, and is it any good?

I realise I will lose out on the banters, romances and certain story lines but, for example do my characters merely replace Minsc and Jaheira at the beginning or do I leave them to rot in the dungeon?

I imagine a five/six strong party will be too powerful this way so am I looking at a four strong party with a rotating NPC for Quests?

    Many thanks.

Your characters will not replace the NPCs in the game but will be added to the other cells. You can still free Minsc and jaheira and not take them.

You may as well have a 5 person party at least as all the NPCs become just as powerful as your own by the end of the game and you would be losing a character slot for no reason.

A MP party is a way to tailor-make a party with the classes and stats you want. I've done this when I'm in a powergaming mood, but I would strongly suggest that you increase the difficulty to Hard or Insane, and/or install Tactics. Otherwise, the game would be far too easy; even with a smaller party, it woukd still lack challenge, beause you are levelling up faster.

Of course, if you're not powergaming, then it's less of an issue.

Another alternative (if you're looking for classes that NPC's don't normally provide) is to try the Alternate NPC mod which lets you change the class of certain NPC's. You can get to it through the sticky at the top of the Playground forum.

U can download a part of the Ease-Of-Use mod, and it'll let you treat multiplayer NPC's just like the games NPC's, in that you can leave them in the Copper Coronet or wherever (as opposed to kicking them out of the party and never being able to use them again).

Create all the characters you want and save them. Then start a new game and insert them all into the party. It should automatically assign control of the character to you. Click all the check marks next to their names when you are done and start playing! When it asks for a type of connection, it doesn't really matter; tcp/ip or the first choice (i forget what it was called) works fine for our purposes.

Once you have a save game, you can move it to the single player save game folder if you want. This lets you bypass all the connection choosing and clicking the check marks next to characters business.

Only the character placed in the first slot will get be the child of Bhaal though; the others won't have the innate powers. They just act like NPC's that don't say anything. You can talk to them in game and tell them to leave if you want.

By the way, if you and a friend play a mixed party (PCs and NPCs), can both of you be romanced or at least get some banter from the NPC?
    :)

I believe they do not. Only the character placed in the first slot gets those privileges.
