[IMG] Is there anywhere That I could read up on the monsters? I think they play a vital part in the game and would love to find out what makes them tick.

Does a gnoll have a religion? What of his social structure?

You could start with the 3.5 edition D&D Monster Manual. Other than giving basic stats for creatures, it gives brief information about them, their society, organization, typical alignment, etc.

Savage Species is another source book that you'd likely find helpful, as it goes into greater detail about the "monstrous races." There are other books out there as well (e.g. Fiendish Codex Hordes of the Abyss, if you're interested in Demons), but of course, this conversation quickly becomes quite expensive (WoTC is quite good at this).

The system reference document (aka SRD) posted on the Wizards of the Coast site gives a fair amount of this information for free, but it's rather clunky to sift through. I'd recommend checking this out first, looking up the documents titled "monsters...."

EDIT: here's a link to the SRD http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35
