[IMG] Found this game new at the flea market for $6, so I figured why not try it out. Anyway, I'm creating a character, assigning skill points, when I notice this "miscellaneous modifer" knocking down my score. Anybody know what this is? Specifically, I noticed in building a rogue that I had a miscellaneous modifier of -2 on disabling devices. I'm human, so it shouldn't be a racial modifier, right?

It can't be a racial modifier, since none of the races in the game have any negative adjustment directly to skills. The misc modifier usually has something to do with your equipment. So for example the armor check penalty, encumbrance penalty, and things like that would be in there. I think this penalty you're seeing is because you don't have a set of Thieve's Tools. However once you start the game your party will get automatically equipped and your Rogue will get one, and the negative modifier should go away.

Thanks. That must have been it. Once I started playing, the score was correct.
