Okay, so ever since I moved back to the States, I've noticed a lot of people using Macbooks or Macbook Pros. I checked out their specs, and they seem to be pretty good for such thin cases. Plus, they can now dual-boot Windows, although I heard there are sometimes some errors with the Apple Keyboard driver and certain applications.

I'm thinking of getting one on my next upgrade (probably within a year), so I just wanted some advice/opinions about it. Is it good? One of my friends spent half an hour the other day showing me all the good aspects of Macs(he's used PCs until like a year ago), and it did seem pretty good, compatibility issues notwithstanding.

I've only used a Macbook Pro for about 15 minutes while I was sowing some guy the pictures on my website...and in that time, the bottom had gotten so hot, it made my legs turn bright red. I've never used a laptop that has gotten *that* hot...ever. :bad:

Specs wise though, IIRC, the Macbook Pro is one of the top rated laptops on the market right now. Just make sure you buy one of those laptop coolers along with it...you're going to need it. :rolling:

@Merlanni - yeah...those are laptop coolers. You don't need to waste much money on them. Most of them have two fans that *suck* the heat off the bottom of the laptop. If you waste more than $20...then you're just throwing money away. :bad:

When I got mine, I thought that fact that I had two fans sucking air away from my laptop's air intake would cause the CPU to have inadequate airflow...but apparently there's enough air to go around. I've noticed my laptop runs cooler since I've gotten it. :rolling:

Well from what I've seen of the new Leopard, I know my next laptop will be a macbook pro :D
Most of the guys in my field of work (programming) use macs too, so I guess peer pressure is another factor. ;)

I use a MacBook as well, bought it last November, it's a Core 2 Duo variant, but not the latest one currently offered by Apple.

My thoughts on it? OS X runs great on it, but you really need at least 1GB of RAM for it, better if you can afford 2GB. RAM isn't that expensive nowadays I believe, I don't live in the States but seems everyone there buys their RAM online from newegg.com or something.

I've installed Windows XP on it using Boot Camp and it works just fine, can do everything you're used to doing on a Windows PC.

If you want a small, light computer you can take around for everyday use, I'd recommend it. If you're thinking of playing any near-recent games on it though, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. The Intel GMA 950 is really a very poor graphics processor, and it won't be able to run anything (decently) requiring 3D acceleration.

I'd suggest you get the white one, the black's just an Apple marketing scheme, to get you to pay more for a colour.

That's the same thing that Dell is doing. For $50, you can get a different color *lid*. :rolling:
