    [​IMG] Always the last to jump on the bandwagon, I'm finally shopping for an MP3 player. In the wake of all the lawsuits coming down, I'd rather get MP3's legally (sorry Bel and DMC, you'll have to sue others ;) )

    So I'm wondering...how do you get them? Can you move them from a legally bought CD to MP3 format? Is there a legal site to download songs for a slight charge?

    Well my brother has bought a Nike sports MP3 player for when he goes running and I know he uses my computer for downloading music from normal cd's into the MP3 player. It's a computer software program that he received with the player so I guess it's safe to say that you can get the songs from cd's in your MP3 player.

    You may make MP3s from legally bought CDs, if you only use them yourself. There are some very good programmes for converting to MP3 format. I usually use Musicmatch Jukebox.

    If you bought a CD, you may also download it from the internet, for your own use. This would also be legal, but the programmes to download music are often used for illegal purposes.


    [EDIT] Apeman was just a few seconds earlier. Using the programmes you received with your MP3 player is probably even easier.

    Are there any good free ones that come without spyware, etc.? I just started looking into getting the data off some CDs I bought so I could create my own mix to play while at the PC.

    I tried an internet search, but what came up cost $$ or looked like it was loaded with "extras" that I don't want.

    You can also download music from Amazon.com.
    Some of them are from new artists who are trying to get noticed. There are also some from current artists. Not every song from an album is available, but there are some good ones.
