    Yes.

    It's not Bg1. It's different.

But it's a really *good* different.

BTW, if you do happen to pick it up, be prepared for a *lot* of combat. Like in Xcom1 or Jagged Alliance 2 kinda combat; all the time, even in places you thought you had secured already, with people that _just won't DiE_.

You'll be making your party, completely from scratch, and you can't import from Bg1. So, either clone the ones you want at the character creation screen, or come up with your own band of trained killers.

Also, depending on your race (only a couple of times) or your class (several times), you will get different reactions and dialogue from different people. There's a couple of times where a bard comez in handy, a cleric and druid have a couple of options, and there's one or two times where your paladin will just the gun and just start killing people without you ever truely nowing what the deal is other than "they are EVIL".
Also, there are very few 'sub-quests'. Everything you do is to further the storyline; there's a couple of minor fed-ex quests, but that's about it.

There's also a few hours less of gameplay than in the BG games.

If you've already bought it, you're going to smack yourself when you read this. Shortly, Bioware is going to release a Collector's Edition type package which includes IWD and all of it's expansions (and I think a few other perks) for the same price as Icewind Dale. I'd wait until you can get this package.

This one is much shorter than the BG games. It's also very linear. However, it won't leave you wandering aimlessly like BG sometimes did, and it will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat.

Abyssal Knight smacks himself because he recently bought Icewind Dale and what Rastor just said made him mad.

Icewind Dale is great. Baldurs Gate I & II are great. Many hours of gameplay in all of them. :D

[IMG] No, it's not. It's got quite a good story behind it as well. The only difference is you're not pushed into it head-first, like it or not, like in the BG series. You'll find enough story to keep you interested - if you want to find it. If you want to find only hack & slash, you'll find plenty of that as well, but it's hardly just that.

well, you can always push the space bar to make it a more round-based combat ;)

overall, i´d really consider it the "quake" of the infinity-based rpg´s, but the story develops pretty neat (if i think of some of the old gold box d&d´s) and there´s always that funny urge to ´explore just this dungeon before going to bed´

ah, and the polar worms in the expansion set look pretty cool, definitely worth the money.
