Is Safana one of those character where if you don't do her quest fast enough she'll leave. She already complained once so I ran up to give it a try and had just about the worst sirine battle I've ever had. So is it okay to wait a few more levels, or am I going to lose my thief?

Do you have a cleric who can summon skeletons? They are immune to charms and take only 1 damage from arrows. One summon can clear that area of sirines.

You should be more concerned about what actually lies within the cave. I for one have never managed to clear that cave. I usually send a thief with invisibility potions. :D

As for the cave, the trick is tackling the monsters one at a time...while pumping your tanks with healing potions.

Sirines, if you have undead summonings; perfect.

If you have Algernon's cloak; works just as well, just charm one or more of the sirines and get her to distract the others, while you charge in with your company...iirc, you can also use this cloak to charm back someone in your company who's been charmed against you...

Another strategy I've heard, is just sending in your single best fighter, and have him/her try to take the sirines on, that way if he/she gets charmed, there's no risk to anyone else. The downside to this, is of course that this single character will likely go through lots of healing potions.

only problem i can see with the sending in one good fighter is that i believe the sirines carry arrows that hurt really really badly, the 6 damage over something second ones, or something like that, and unless he/she has good ac or those boots and gauntlets he/she will be slaughtered.
