I had IWD/HoW/TotLM installed on my computer. The computer crashed and we lost everything. When I tried to re-install, TLM would not install. I keep getting an error message stating that IWD is not installed. Also, if I try to import an already existing character, the game crashes. I've tried uninstalling and so far, I get the same results. HELP!

    some thoughts....

~when your computer crashed, did you reinstall windows or restore it to a previous save point?

~have you checked your registry to see if all the original IWD/HoW/TotLM entries are indeed uninstalled?

~are you pointing the ToLM to the right place for installation?

I have tried everything....even installing on another computer and nothing has worked. I can begin the game and create a party, but when I actually start playing, the game crashes. I'm not sure what else to do......I was pretty far in to the game initially and am just sick that I have to start all over before finishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TotLM essentially IS the latest patch, so installing a patch on top of that would actually hurt, rather than help.

I've installed everything....at least I thought I did....I have the CD's for the IWD and HOW. I downloaded TotLM which I thought had any patches, etc. Are there any more patches I should have installed?

Nope, as Fel said, ToTL includes the final patch. When you uninstalled, did you check the installation directory to make sure that nothing was left (and delete any leftovers manually)?

If you're experiencing the same problems after installing the game on another computer, it's likely that some files on the CDs are corrupt...

I actually just tried to install it on my laptop. IWD and HoWwork fine. When I try to install the Trials patch, I get an error message saying that a valid copy of the other is not found. I've tried playing the game and it seems to work ok. I've seen there is another patch, should I try that?

By "the computer crashed and we lost everything" does that mean you lost a system critical file and couldn't restore or that you broke the hard drive and had to get a new one?

Also, did you install to the default install folder "C:bad:Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\"? It appears that Trials of the Luremaster goes right to this folder when trying to install itself.

As for installing and crashing on another computer, did the computer meet the minimum requirements? Maybe your CDs are bad too.

No, actually we were able to restore, just not certain files.

I just checked to make sure....It was installed into the correct file (the one mentioned above).

I have installed IWD and HoW on the computer I am currently using and it works fine. My problem now lies in trying to install 'Trials'. My laptop is newer (with Windows XP operating system). I keep getting a message stating "setup was unable to find a valid installation of Icewind Dale. Please make sure IWD and HoW have been properly installed". After I tried installing this last night, I actually was able to play the game with no problems. I am so confused and aggrivated.

I just reached the portion of the game where I should have access to HoW and can't get in. I'm going to try to re-install one more time, most likely tomorrow when I get back home. Any suggestions on how to make sure HoW is installed or what to do if I can't install it?

When you uninstall, delete your Icewind Dale directory as well. That way there's NO extra files laying around that could be messing things up.
