[IMG] When is the best moment to dual Imoen into a Mage? I got 65% in FT and 60% in OL. I'm not sure how many % in OL and FT is enough in BG?

Oh, another four levels ought to do it. ;) Really, I never dual Imoen unless I've got someone else to do actual thief stuff. If you really want a straight answer though, remember that in BG2 she's dualled at level 7...

Yes, perhaps I should heed your advice and keep Imoen as a thief. Besides I allready got Dynaheir and the "F/M Khalid"-mod...

The best moment to dual Imoen is level6. Then she can still reach the highest mage levels within the XPcap.
If you dual her than choose illusionist or conjurer.
She is the only mage who has both high con for many HP and high dex for good AC.
But you need another thief in your party if you dual her.
Your party gets stronger if you dual her and drop Dynaheir for one of the powerful multiclass thieves like Montaron, Shar-Teel, Coran or Tiax.
You gain both a better party mage and a better party thief.

But you don't need the strongest possible party in order to have fun.

I dual Immy as soon as I can, which means as soon as I can get another thief I can rely on. She's the best mage in the game, barring Edwin, who has some drawbacks if you're not running an evil party.

Take another two levels and put everything into FT. Then as soon as that's done, dual her to a Conjuror. During this time you should be 'out in the field' or NOT in something like the Nashkel Mines or whatever, just so that you can get alot more experience doing quests and such outside, because there's not much to be had there. Once she gets her thief skills back she should be fine! It would be a good idea if the first spell she takes is sleep too, but just make sure you get a tank or something to look after her in the early stages.

I still consider a change of profession for Imoen, but I want to keep Dynaheir. Something about being the "canon" party :p

Since I usually play a F/T I dual Immy right away but on the rare occassions I don't play a F/T I dual her latter probably about level 7 or sooner if I get a thief. She makes a good mage.

I guess it's RP reasons. I would like to bring Minsc with me, and since I don't want to drop Dynaheir in some house or let her getting killed, then I'm stuck with the witch of Minsc

Well I guess if you want Minsc I guess you probably wouldn't want to have Edwin then hey? But why don't you use make some extra room in your party and just kill her. It would be sooOoOo much easier! Or did you want to take her on too? I guess she'll be more powerful (spell related) in the long run but meh, Dynaheir!

You don't like her?? :) I'm keeping her for the moment, but one never knows. In a couple of days things could have changed. Nay to Edwin, since I'm ranger (good), so I didn't want to bother. I had thought of a party without arcane casters. But for now I'm going with Dynaheir.

But now we're a bit :yot:

Ahh true, sorry. But regarding Imoen, what type of thief were hoping her to be? If you had another thief in the party then you would probably only have to advance one skill (usually another two levels would be enough), but if she was to be the only thief, then you might have to wait a little longer unfortunately. So what exactly is your party going to be like and what role is little Immy to play in all of this?

Dynahair is a decent mage; certainly playable. I think the critics are trying to say there are better choices available. If you want to be really contrary, take Xan.

There's nothing wrong with Dynaheir. Her biggest drawback is losing spells to the enchantment school, which IMO, is no worse than taking Xan, who loses spells from the evocation school.

Generally, I agree with what Fel says. If you have a second thief in your party, then Imoen can be dualed sooner. If you don't have another thief in your party, then maybe you don't want to dual Imoen at all. Keep in mind that while Imoen does make arguably the best mage in the game, she also is most likely the best theif in the game. So it's not like you're playing her all wrong if you don't dual her - she is a very good thief.

In my current play through, I am playing a F/T multi-class. I do plan on dual classing Imoen (because I have another thief - me), and I'm planning on doing it at level 4. There are a few reasons for that choice. 1.) I get a bonus of 1 to THACO and an additional proficiency selection. 2.) My PC will not get sufficient skill points to adequately develop ALL of his thief skills by the end of the game. As such I'm using Imoen for pick pocketing. By the time she gets to level 4 her pick pocket skill will be at 85% - more than good enough for me.

I don't use a second thief in my party, so the idea of not dualing is quite appealing to me. And as I stated before I use the Khalid F/M mod, wich makes Imoen as a mage even less needed.

In upcoming games I'll have to glimpse closer at Thac0 tables, it's probably worth the effort :)

    Thanks for the answers

If you have TotLM installed, you can wait until Imouen is level 7, but it'll take a long time to get her Thief skills back.

BTW, switch her into a Conjuror. ;)
