If we - for the sake of argument - accept that there is a hell, and that gays go there, then I suppose that at the time of death, your multiple personalities would split up and the gays would go to hell, while the non-gays would go to whereever they deserved to go (which may of course be hell). :p

Depends on the religious beliefs (and which religion is 'right'). For some, mental illness is a weakness and any wrongs perpetrated by the mentally ill are sins. For other religions, mental illness makes the person incapable of differentiating between some rights and wrongs; for those religions the mentally ill person has committed no sin.

if your multiple personalities share the same soul I think you are in trouble. what one personality does the entire soul is responsible for.

I don't think so. I don't know that you'd be held accountable at the judgement seat.

Perhaps at the, ugh...judgement seat...*cringe*, you are seperated into different persons, one for each personality, and then each person that has been made for each personality will be either roasted alive forever in hell, or live in eternal boredom in heaven, depending on their virtues and whether or not they follow the commands of their God etc. Either option is a hell in its own kind, really...

No. When you die, you die. There is no heaven or hell. Everything simply ceases according to you.

That this question could ever be asked speaks volumes.

About what, I don't know. Nor do I know what's being said. But I'm sure it's important, and insightful.

Errr... no? I don't believe in heaven and hell anyway. And I'm no psychiatrist but here's my theory (based on logic) if you have a multiple personality disorder and one of them is gay, then it might suggest that you're gay. As I understand it MPD develloped when an aspect of yourself you simply loath or you're constently repressing, and through a psychologic derengment becomes another ''personality'' and AFAIK both (or more) personalities doesn't aknowledge there's an another one. So yeah it might just because you're gay in the first place. That's just my theory though, I'm no specialist.

And serioulsy even if there was an Hell I really don't understand why a person would end up there simply because he/she is homosexual.

Assuming that there WAS a Hell, of course. neither do I, it just seemed like an interesting question. to me, at least.

Seeing as the disorder called multiple personalities is under serious scrutiny and its very existance is in question the question however insightful might be moot. MPD seems to be something that mostly is a good and cool tool to write stories around and not something that actually exists.

If the disorder actually exists (which as I said is in serious doubt nowadays) it is so rare that I am sure that whatever deity or religious system happens to be correct, if any, would be able to scrutinize the case closely to see what needs to be done.

Well, then you get to the problem if that there was a hell, whose hell would it be? What god? What denomination? Question gets so complex from the get go, who cares about the personality disorder :p

I'd most certainly hope they don't, though. Otherwise me and the Big Cheese are going to have words when I die. Namely on the lines of "Why are you such a prick?"

Of course, you DO realize that both parties in that confrontation will utter the line at the same time, right? ;)

But I'd have to say: it depends on the beliefs of the (sub-?) personality in question: if this gay entity has a genuine, deep-set religious belief that homosexuality is sinful and will result in that soul spending eternity in aitch-eee-double-hockey-sticks, then that's where it ends up. If a separate personality within the same individual beliefs in atheism, then that personality would simply end upon death.

(This IS taking the assumption that MPD is genuine).

I follow the 'Discworld-ish' belief system that whatever a person truly believes about the afterlife, will happen to them. This does leave openings for inequities like a good, kind and just person banishing themselves to eternal torment because they believe they didn't do enough, or malicious, greedy...despots or tyrants, etc who are rewarded with an afterlife in paradise because of their beliefs.

But hey, nobody says life is fair (it's just that many people expect it to be, and get disappointed...)
