If I change my CD-ROM letter, do I need to reinstall?

I just noticed that I forgot to stop the "recovery" partition on my computer's HD from automatically mounting when I went to do a backup. If I choose to hide it (to keep it safe), most likely the drive letter of my CD-ROM will change to D instead of E. Will this cause any problems with NWN the way it would with Baldur's Gate? I know how to edit Baldur's Gate to fix that (although I haven't tried to install any Infinity Engine games on my Vista computer since they run just fine on my old Win98SE machine), but how would I do it with NWN?

Do I need to reinstall everything if I do this?

I haven't tried it, but IIRC you also have all the path settings in one or two NWN ini files, so theoretically it shouldn't be too hard to change, unless something in the registry needs to be changed as well.

IIRC since patch 1.68 the game no longer checks for the presence of the CD. If you did a full install you should be able to play the game without having the CD, regardless of which drive the INI files point to.

Also, there's a way to keep the same drive letter for the CD drive if you don't want to risk messing up other games or applications. Go into Administrative Tools, then Disk Management, and you'll have the choice there of manually assigning the drive letter for each partition and optical drive. If the CD drive goes to D, you can change it back to E there.

I'm pretty sure that they disabled the disk check earlier than patch 1.68. Regardless of when it was disabled, I've never needed my NWN CDs in the disk drive when I played it (I joined the fun only a couple of years back, though).
