Identify spell costs gold?!!!

    Perhaps I have a bug, but the identify spell is costing me gold everytime my character casts it...is this Right??? is it supposed to?

    As far as I know there is a 100 Gold requirement for each time you cast the spell, so yes it's supposed to. But anyway the identify system is retarded you're better just guessing what the items do.

    The only advantage of the Identify spell over having things identified in a shop is that you can do it anytime with the spell. They both cost the same. Naturally you'd never want to identify scrolls (use Read Magic). As far as items go, you usually get paid very little for selling unidentified items, so identifying them is always good if you plan on reselling them later on, as you will always make a profit (the only exception being with potions).

    Yup, they have actually implemented the "costy spellcomponents" for most spells, just wait until you get Stoneskin! ;)

    It shuold also be on Raise Dead but i can't recal if it was or not. It shuold be 500gold for the Stoneskin. and about 5000 gold for raise dead.

    Early in the game, when cash is low, just save, identify, then reload. Also, there is a bug (maybe fixed w/Co8 patch) that lets you identify potions with read magic.

    The Co8 made potion's identifiable with read magic, as you are supposed to be able to identify potions with the alchemy skill, as alchemy doesn't exist in ToEE this workaround kinda stuck, wands of identify are exelent value for money though ;)

    A hint: As soon as possible, make wands of identification. It is not as expensive, as far as I can remember.

    There is a mass_identify spell at Co8 too, that allows you to cast it once and it identifies everything you got. A cheat, to be sure, but later in the game when you don't care about the money and you are starting to find lots of potions etc, far easier than doing it individually.

    Identifying potions with read magic isn't a bug. The developers did that intentionally, as evidenced by the helm of reading magic you can make with the item creation feat. Regarding costly spell components.......there's kind of a cheesy workaround. You can scribe a scroll of identify for 4 experience points and 50 gp. It doesn't cost any more than that when you read the scroll, so between using read magic for your scrolls and potions and using the identify spell from scrolls, identifying items won't really be a burden in the cost department. It's even cheaper to just make a wand. 30xp, 375 Gold.....and 20 charges.

    Read magic identifying scrolls and potions was a modification introduced by Co8 version 1.
