Well, play BG1 and the story is the same, just more developed.

Has no one every considered a prequal?

During the time of troubles, Bhaal dies, right? Maybe some storyline could revolve around whomever the group was who kills him. Or maybe the story could revolve around adventurers who seek to protect the "good" gods, or whomever, who are vulnerable in their mortal state. I mean whatever - in a prequal where we lay out events leading up to the birth of the children of Bhaal, anything can make sense.

People are just thinking about it the wrong way. "But CHARNAME is too powerful as a god and it won't be any fun!!!!" So...who says we have to continue the story to continue the series? Tell the story before the story. The anticipation of the Star Wars prequels should tell you that people don't mind retroactive storytelling.

If his mortal adventures haven't been covered too extensively, what about playing Bhaal himself? The guy was mortal before reaching godhood, wasn't he?

Has anyone considered the prospect of an Icewind Dale-like game where you can generate your own characters (or make one and find prepared NPCs), in the setting of Amn/Baldur's Gate?

Perhaps this game could be about the repercussions of <Charname's> swath through the Sword Coast. A Balor has devoured Sarevok's and Irenicus' power, perhaps, and is now here to cause a bit of ruckus. The Big Bad Evil Guys of SoA/ToB had some contingency plan that was never activated untll after <Charname> reached godhood. Yadda yadda yadda.

IIRC Tyr killed Bhaal. Besides the would-be war between Baldur's Gate and Amn was spurred into existance by Sarevok and the Iron Throne after corrupting the Nashkel (sp.?) mines. The mines are owned by Amn and any act of sabotage against something so valuable to the military is an obvious action of hostility.

However the mines were cleared by <Charname> and the leader of the organisation who attempted to corrupt the ore was killed. After proving that Sarevok was not a representative of Baldur's Gate the threats of war ceased.

Thus no reason for Amn and Baldur's Gate to be at war.

Not to mention: THE BHAAL SAGA IS OVER DAMNIT! Stop trying to force a plot!

Honestly, I don't think that a prequal would work, because there could on;y be one ending. I mean, if you were playing Baahl himself for example, you know what will happen, albeit only generaly.

He is alive, he meets his buddies, they go bowling with the lord of the dead, Baahl becomes a god, is forced to walk the land, then dies.

Not much suprise. But I liked Oaz's idea, and agreed with Abomination. The BG saga is like Baahl. It is dead, so stop trying to resurrect it or I will sic Boo upon you!! :D

Ejem... without being BG 3 or whatever, you know, when you finish the game you have a little story about what Minsc, Imoen, etc., done with their life after the game is over, why not to create a game let's say, Minsc's travels, or whoever other chraracter from the game.

Funny don't you think, that Bhaal, once a fearsome assassin turned god of killers was killed by a defender od good and is blind.
Tyr is the god of jusice therefore in blind, i think.

Actually, I think it was Midnight (now Mystra), Cyric, Kelemvor, and Adon who gangbanged Bhaal's avatar to death with Mask's help.

But since it's been a long time since I read the Avatar trilogy, I could be wrong.

Or maybe it was Cyric himself who stabbed Bhaal to death with his sword Godsbane.

    Can anyone clarify that?

It was Cyric indeed. He then got Bhaal's portfolio as well.

    And that Kelemvor's avatar was a fighter/lychanthrope.

Actually, Kelemvor was just your ordinary low-level joe fighter with crummy stats during the Time of Troubles. IIRC, various assorted thugs were smacking him about with impunity. At least Midnight had her magic and Cyric was a stone-cold killer who kicked everybody's ass. Adon was almost as useless as him.

His were-form was his only saving grace in battle. But even that didn't save him from Cyric.

Personality wise, I found him bland at best and annoying at worst.

Why Ao would sponsor him as the new god of death is really beyond me.

I dont think Kelemvor was so bad at all. In fact, I think he was a good character. Not everyone can be an ultra-strong smarta** guy who never loses and does everything right. I like the fact that he "can be defeated", he is not made to be one of those "invincible" characters.

And since when did this turn into a discussion about the Avatar series...not that I mind though. ;)

Hmmm. Didn't Black Isle Studios close down?
Or is this just a phillosophical question?
IIRC there was a good (ableit long) thread in the BGII forum a while back if anyone wants to read more about it.
