Junior designer Damien Foletto at Black Isle has written part two of RPG Vault's Icewind Dale II designer diary. The article focuses on items carried by monsters in the game.

Over the course of three months, the list of Random Drop Items grew from a mere 300, to being well over 500 - including all Heart of Fury, uber bad-ass items of extraordinary prowess - but not including the Unique items.

Now, this does not mean that you will find ALL 700+ Random Drop Items in the game your first run through. No, the beauty about IWD2 is that the in-game Random Drop Table (capitalizing makes things read more importantly, don't you think) will randomly choose from a preexisting list of appropriate power level items and drop ONE item from that list - thus giving each gamer a different looting experience.

To illustrate - and more importantly, to show a sampling of the types of items you may or may not find (see, that whole "Random" thing I was writing about earlier) - continue reading.
