I thought a Drizzt movie was coming out...

    It makes me wonder...Will an Icewind Dale/Drizzt movie be made? All the books make the NYT bestseller list - is there enough recognition? I'm sure the movie houses are looking for the next "Ring," "Potter," "Narnia" series. Could this be it?

    Given that the best WotC could do for Dragonlance in 30 years was to outsource the production to India for a substandard cartoon, I'd say the interest of any major movie studios is non-existent. Either that, or they're not offering WotC enough money.

    Also, given how saturated the fantasy movie market is currently, I don't think that anyone's that desperately seeking new franchises because even some of the ones thought to be instant hits (like Narnia and The Golden Compass) didn't do even remotely as well as projected. WotC tends to favour going solo and minimizing the investment in any movie/cartoon projects because they know that even if the end result is total dreck, it will still sell to the target audience (and when they finance it themselves, they keep 100% of the profits). Which is really the best possible incentive for them to continue producing barely passable, but profitable movies.

    I have heard rumors from a close friend that a Drizzt movie is indeed in the making, but so far, I have not asked him of his sources, nor have I been able to locate any myself.

    Well, I suspect that that the number of moviegoers who have even heard of Drizzt is miniscule, and the number who actually know anything about his background is even less, so I can't see the point in making a movie based on the character. Why, the number of people who would go just based on the Drizzt name would number in the dozens, maybe even the hundreds! The movie would actually need to be, um, good in order to attract a wider audience, and if it's good, you wouldn't need Drizzt's name.

    Well, there are movies adaptions of Monopoly and Battleship in the works. One more crappy movie won't matter...

    I don't even like Drizz't. If a movie was made I'd have to struggle with the urge to attack the canvas whenever he'd be on screen.

    DemonWars is being made into a movie I think. Salvatore wrote that one too right? Also about a ranger that is way more powerfull than anyone else on the map. :)
