How does sending troops to Chicago not violate Posse Comitatus?

    A judge ruled that sending troops to LA to enfarce immigration laws violated the Posse Comitatus act.

    Yet Trump responded by deciding to send the National Guard to Chicago against the Mayor and Governor's objections. They didn't send the National Guard in ~15 years ago when there was major violence in the streets (although it was talked about and the governor almost did), yet they are doing so for peaceful immigration?

    How is what he's doing in Chicago any different from what he did in LA? I just don't understand, the courts told him that was illegal and he's going ahead anyway. I realize that he's set himself up so he gets no consequences for anything he does, which goes against everything I was ever formally taught about "nobody is above the law" and proves it is a crock of shit (which I already knew from practical experience starting with schoolyard bullies and abusive teachers way back in elementary school), but shouldn't the court last week have given him a clear signal on this type of thing? Yet he's going ahead with it.

    What you need to understand is that a single partisan hack district judge doesn't necessarily get to tell the President's administration what they can and cannot do. Charles Breyer's opinion has already been appealed and his injunction stayed.

    Just by way of background, part of the California riots was a perception that many ICE agents didn't even care if the Latinos they were grabbing for deportation were actually citizens with full rights or not. So any similar efforts afterwards are naturally going to be greeted with resentment.

    If you were in the riots than you should't be here! Just like the idiots that stormed DC. Don't go to a peaceful protest and get caught up in gang violence, they deserved whatever they got :beer:

    Seriously though, if you think illegal immigrants and protesters are the problem in your country, you should take a step back and reevaluate. Those are things done out of desperation.

    It's an old tactic, made famous over a century ago for union-busting.
    The people opposed to the protestors send agent provocateurs to slip in among the legitimate protestors to cause trouble for the sole purpose of framing the peaceful protestors into criminal hoodlums, then slip away once the cops start moving in to quell the violence.
    Said agent prevaricators on the surface seem to be acting against their employer with violence, but it is a gambit to frame the protesters for the violence so they can claim the protesters are criminal hoodlums and should not be pandered to. Do not reward negative behavior and all that.

    Now the ruling has been not only affirmed, but another judge has ruled sending troops to Illinois is also violating the Posse Comitatus Act. Also I didn't realize tRump has been talking about this for over a month before actually acting.
