    Any tech guru around?

I recently bought a new pc, so I want a new monitor to go with it. I have fallen in love with the HP w2207, but the problem is that only the HP w2207h is available everywhere I look. The h-model has a HDMI connector at the back, while my graphics card only supports DVI. I've heard that there are HDMI to DVI cables available, but will that lead to any quality loss, or are these two standards completely exchangeable? (as in only different set up of pins, with audio support in HDMI).

Well, I'm no expert, but from this article, I'd say you'd be fine.

That is correct, HDMI is backward-compatible with DVI.

I read an article that DVI connections will be completly replaced with HDMI soon. Besides offering the same image quallity, they offer audio support (as mentioned above), the connectors are smaller, and the connectors don't have fragile pins like DVI/VGA connectors do. :rolling:

And to make matters worse, the next standard called displayport is already located on new cards. You will be fine. Nice choice, I looked it up. The cable cast around 10 € for 3 meter.

Thanks for the tips everybody. I bought it on the weekend and absolutely love it, even though I'm currently using it on VGA (haven't bought a proper cable yet).

I think it's odd they put this HDMI in everything. It is probably ok as a cheap solution, but most people probably want separate speakers, making HDMI pretty useless. I can't imagine somebody spending money on a good (and not very cheap) monitor and settling with the crappy speakers they put in the monitor. On a side note, I figured out why the DVI editions of the HP monitors aren't available anywhere: HP only uses HDMI in their own pc's, so apparently they stopped producing the others.

Just because HDMI supports audio doesn't mean you have to use it. There are more benifits to HDMI than just the adio. See my last post for just a few. One that is didn't mention in my last post is that for HTPCs (home theater PCs), HDMI is ideal because you can use them to connect directly to a TV or an AV reciever. :rolling:
