For #1, you have to open configuration and activate cheat mode or whatever it's called. You need to do this for both IWD1 and IWD2. For #2, I don't know, but I never had such a problem with my game on my Vista laptop. Of course, I hate sleep and generally consider it a useless spell, so it may just be that spell. Have you tried getting rid of it and replacing it with something else?

If you're using your system drive you should run the game as administrator. Vista is temperamental when it comes to modifying files on the system drive.

Your Fighter/Mage is dualled so my first question is which class is active? If your character was able to cast sleep at the start it means that she was a level 1 Mage and you dualled her into a Fighter. If my assumption is correct then perhaps your Mage class is still inactive. For it to be active your character's new class has to be a level higher than the former class (for a Mage dualled into Fighter to be able to cast spell it is needed that the Fighter level be strictly superior to the Mage level).

Multiclass characters evolve at the same time in two (or even three) different classes whereas dual classed characters start in a given class and then change classes to embrace a new career, forgetting their previous class abilities until they have mastered their new class.
