Has American Idol jumped its shark?

    'Jumping the Shark' refers to that definable moment where the days of a t.v. show become numbered, ala the Fonz's waterski jump over a live shark in Happy Days.

    Never was into this affair, but I found this latest development interesting to say the least. Sure, maybe they can find another judge if Paula Abdul quits, but that kind of episode erupting so spontaneously has got to leave a certain taste in the mouth of anybody who saw it.

    oh, i don't think she'd really quit, this always happens i think. perhaps its even scripted for excitement :rolleyes:

    and, i'd like to post my unanswered question from my own american idol thread:

    does Simon Cowell's vote carry more weight than anybody else's?

    Beren, the Pop Idol show jumped the shark the moment it they went beyond the first series and the original country. The first Pop Idol show was marginally interesting, but as soon as they tried it again, and then brought out American Idol, Australian Idol, New Zealand Idol, and, worst of all, World Idol, it became overblown and impossibly tiresome.

    I certainly see your point. But like I said, I never was into this whole thing to begin with. This latest episode became quite the public 'gotta know', and when I heard about it, I was quite amused. Just strikes me as a particular downpoint that sticks out.

    The sooner these things die, I say, the better - and their clones for that matter (like this awful show 'The X Factor' or whatever it is ... damn those people suck.)
