Reading the definition off a sorcerer, it was speculated that his/her innate powers stemmed from some powerfull creature, such as a god or perhaps a dragon in humanoid form.
This raises the following question: Why halfdragons? I mean is the offspring of dragons and humans (or any humanoid race for that matter) a weird hybrid, or are they human(oid)s with exeptional abilities, without any draconic telltale signs?

I also like to add that this is my first post, since I only registrated 10 minuts ago, so bear with me :)

I mean like I've got this protagonist, who is a half-elven sorcerer in BG2. Until I playd IWD2 I thought he was just another half-elven sorcerer, possible linked to some power. And now I find that he could be a halfdragon?

It probably simply means that The Power stemmed from a god or a dragon-humanoid, so the user of the magic power isn't at all connected to that being. Like, the God gave mortals the gift of magic, or the dragon, in human form, developed means for mortals to use that power. IIRC magic isn't a gift in the Forgotten Realms, but can be used by anyone (in some fantasy worlds you need to have "the gift", which would point to some sort of ancient bloodline, and this doesn't appear to be the case in the world of Baldur's Gate...).

I can see where the confusion would be. I mean a Dragon is 20 feet tall. How would their... equipment... work? Because a Dragon can Shapeshift into the form of a human, much like a druid does a bear. Anyway, a Dragon being hunted by someone may want to keep his lineage alive or something, so he'll shapeshift into human form and score with a lady.

Dragons also have an innate ability to cast spells, so that would be passed down through the offspring. In your case though (being the child of a god and all) I would be leaning towards the blood of a god running through your veins.

Also, if you don't know, a Tiefling is a half-demon, although I'm not sure if demons can shapeshift.

[IMG] I think only the ones high in the demon world can change forms, but not much I'd imagine. In planescape: Torment there was a demon who was in the form of a human.

IIRC - Tieflings have Ta'arani blood in their veins.

Dragons can change into humanoid forms though ont for that long. Also many are too proud to even think about making babies with mortals. Why bother when you can fly and strike down your foes? That is why half-dragons are so rare and outcast from both of their worlds. In rare times when they are accepted they could probably continue a line slowly becoming more humanoid and eventually just a line of sorcerers. Has Tal got something to tell us :p

I bet the old Bhaal making with demons and dragons will score a big record in the local Cama-Sutra, heee heeeh! :D Tieflings are descendants of demons and have something diabolical in themselves... As for Aasimar, they are from the union of mortal and deity...

I think you have Gibberling brothers and sisters around. Is Bhaal really desperate or what?

Well, what seperates Sorcerers from Wizards is that Wizards study and study and study while Sorcerers casts magic by -poof-...just like that. Hope that kinda clears it up?

Half-dragons don't have to look like Sherincal. They may well have the pure form of either race. Also a dragon polymorphed into human form for convenience could happen to be a sorcerer. A god seems unlikely since the power thus received is more like innate spels rather than charisma-based semi-innate casting ability. It's a bit like saying that wizards are begotten from genies (/geniuses), but well... since that's in rules. I view it as a different approach towards the weave. More of art than of study, but still requiring both.

[IMG] I used to play 3rd Edition D&D and a half dragon was as Mystra's Chosen said a cross between a Dragon (in shapeshifted form) and a human. They could breath fire once or twice a day and incurred a lot of penalties although they had a choice of most of the classes (not just sorcerers). AD&D may be a hell of a lot different and none of this may be relevant, but this is just my knowledge. :(

[IMG] Just a thought - Druids, as mentioned before, shift, is that where wolfweres and such come from :p
