[IMG] I am soloing as a undead hunter and plan to take up arms against the might red dragon. I would greatly appreciate an information on how to take him down by myself. Any items that would help me take him out and around what level I should be at. Thanks in Advance.

Make sure you have excellent Fire Res! ;)

    Do you have Halbred skills?
Use that DragonBane (+6 vs Dragons)

As a Paladin sub-class, it would be better not to fight him until you are specifically asked to by your order (if you are going because they asked you, no problem).

Potions of speed or boots of cheeta are a must. A way to summon something would also come in handy, like the staff of fire. The summons are usefull as a distraction when you need some breathing room to drink healing potions.

Further more a ring of regeneration (or Gaxx ring if available), combined with potions of regeneration for extra fast regeneration keeps you in combat longer. Combine this with Rightous magic, the special ability you've got if you fight before getting Imoen back, will give your pally much needed hitpoints and strength.

Get your fire resistance at 127% (the maximum) by potions scrolls, helmets, rings and whatevers is a simple thing that you've probably figured out yourself.

There are potions to gain magic resistance, which could be usefull if his pet mage is still in the area.

If you can silence him during the combat you 'only' have to worry about his melee skills, since his breathweapon actually heals you. There is a sword in the game that can cast the spell for you IIRC. I recall a fight with a dragon that became silenced and he didn't use his breathweapon for the rest of the fight. I don't know if this is a bug, or that the dragon was killed to soon for his breathweapon to reload.

If you become to seriously wounded, run upstairs and drink healing potions if you've also run out of summons, otherwise use the summons as a buffer.

For weapons I would suggest you use a weapon with elemental damage (no fire damage ofcourse) at least until you get rid of his stoneskins. After that use a weapon that has bonusses against dragons, unless of course you are not proficient in it.

I can't stress enough: run if your too seriously wounded, but do NOT rest! He will be fully healed when you return!

    Good Luck!

i've never played as a paladin (i'm not sure why, probably because of keldorn, the best of em all:)). Do you get the Order of the Radiant heart as a stronghold or something? Why did Maldir

Yes you do get the Order as your stronghold. The head of the order gives you several quests the final one of which is to defeat Firkraag and recover Carsomyr.

Just a small probably not very helpful little thing. If you keep your character between the exit and the dragon, then you could flee back up to the rooms that would already be empty ('cause you should of killed all the stuff up there) then you might be able to rest and replenish your health.

I haven't tried this myself, but It could work.

In the borderline between cheat and combat tactics; it's possible to run around the hole in the lower part of the room, stopping occasionally and throwing spells, shooting arrows/bolts or other mean things on the dragon. Make sure he doesn't get too close (as he will then attack or use his nasty spells) and that you're stocked up on coffee and nicotine... :p

This applies if you decide to take him out early, like lvl 10 (You'll still need some good eq.), otherwise just use fire res and take him on toe to toe, with a sipp on the health potions every now and then.

Ilbratha helps alot, but only for a little while, so if you're in dire straights, use it, then take some healing. Also, invisibilty potions will give you some time. Sanctuary is a good spell to use too. The Dragon Slayer Long Sword, Dragon Helm, Ring of Fire Res., Ring of Fire Control(?), the Silver Bracers (if you've got The Darkest Day, of course) and The Dragon Shield will help, although you may want the extra AC and go with the Sentinal. Stock up on the healing potions and summoning items if you can use them.

You find a bunch of Dragon Slaying stuff before fighting Firkragg, and there's a Ring of Fire Resistance dropped by one of his goons (a Rakasha, I think) before entering that big dungeon.

Gather as much fire resistance as you can, the dragonslaying sword +2, dual-wielded with flail of ages or something equally nasty if you have the proficiency and several potions of invisibility, invulnerability, speed etc. Your level must be enough to cast spells if you're soloing, so sanctuary would be in order (for healing undisturbed).

All the draggy stuff and lots of regen, too. And make Valygar whack him, with his katana. The Acid Bleeding thing actually killed Firky in my game.

    [IMG] To Thunder

I do not mean to be rude but your tactics had some faws.

    (1) you cannot attack or use spells while using boots of cheeta speed
    (2) a ring of Gaxx is not wearable with magical armour
(3)regenerations DO NOT stack and only the highest one will take effect
    :)

You cannot attack or cast spells with the Boots of LIGHTING Speed. The Cheeta Speed, aka Boots of Speed, Hastes its wearer.
