in essence it should be the same experience but it isnt like that unfortunatley.
the game of bg favours the good player, if your rep drops too low then you get hounded by guards and all the items in the shops cost far too much, too low a rep and certain people wont join you, and isnt it just amazing that all the best charcters are good and wont join you unless your are some form of good or they iwll leave as soon as they notice your low rep, it sux, so just play with a good character and keep your rep in the middle to keep all your teammates happy.

Its much easier being good, as many quests boost your reputation just for useing a bit of common sense and bing nice. A higher reputation can drastically affect prices for supplies and better arms/armour, which makes it easier to get them. It can also affect how other NPCs react to you.

Of course being bad can be more fun......

When being bad it all depends how many flaming fist assults you can hold off. Once you got the flaming fist slaying down than its really fun. The next step is to depopulate Baldur's Gate. Kill everyone there. Then the rest of the towns will be easy as pie.
