I've got a serious question for all you hardcore D&D types out there, particularly the ones with source books, etc.

At the time of IWD2, who is Faerun's God of the Dead? Is it Myrkul or Kelemvor?

I realize that there's a cleric of Myrkul in Targos and that might be a bit of a clue in Myrkul's favor, but I want some solid confirmation one way or the other.

    Thanks.

If you reminded me what year IWD2 happened in i could find you an ansver.

The question itself is basically did IWd2 happen before or after the "Time of troubles" or teh Godwar as its called (year 1358)

Myrkul, IWD2 is before the Time of Trouble.

Which is all the typical Cyric roles are filled by Priests of Bane (or Xvim).

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.

So is Cyric not even a Greater Power at this time? And Kelemvor not yet a god?

(Oh dear. Houston, we have a problem.)

Another related question. Was the pre Time of Trouble, pre-Midnight, Mystra a LN-aligned goddess? I seem to remamber reading that this was so and that when the original Mystra was slain by Helm and later replaced with the mortal "Midnight" that Midnight became the new Mystra, but with a NG alignment.

In quiring minds want to know. ;)

Cyric, Kelemvor and Midnight have not ascended yet (they were all in the same adventuring party as I remember, hell they might be off somewhere adventuring while you play IWD2), Waukeen has not yet disappeared, the Dead Three (Myrkul, Bane and Bhaal) are all still alive, the orignal Mystra is still alive, Ibrundul has yet to be killed by Shar and Leira by whoever kills her.

Edit: That's Right, Leira was killed by Cyric (Lucky little bastard has like 3 or 4 different portfolios in his possession).

    Thanks, I.S.

That would make for some confrontation in IWD2. ;)

Just to repeat my question (from my editted post), is the old Mystra a LN goddess?

    I'm not sure.

Both of the magic gods in the Player's Handbook are LN and Wizards are suppose to lean more so toward Law then Chaos, so I can only imagine the original Mystra (who off the bat was neutral to both Shar and Selune) is LN (as magic isn't good or evil, but is bound by order), but I'm afraid you can't quote me on that.

Both LN and NG deities can produce paladins so that can't help.

    No prob, IS.

I just looked over on Wikipedia, which is actually a decent site for getting some quickie info on this, the old Mystra was in fact a LN goddess.

This new info as really caused me a little problem on a "project" I'm working on, that I don't want to discuss publicly yet.

Don't know if this will help in pin-pointing the year of IWDII.

IWDII takes place 30 years after IWD. IWD takes place 16 years before the appearance of Drizzt DO'Urden.

IWD II is suppose to be shortly before the Time of Troubles, that I know.

Yes teh old Mystra was LN, Midnight was/is NG which transfered when she became Mystra, That is also why Priests of Mystr can be a wide range of alignments (use both LN + NG as base alignment and wander one step away from it).
