I have for a longer time considered getting myself a secondary computer. For one, I want to have a thing I can take with me when I travel, and then I want to have some backup in case I have to repair my 'big one' or in case it fails.

The options I consider are currently either a basic 15,6 in notebook or an eeePc netbook.
and the netbook, also from Asus:
Price is about the same. Simply put, I can't decide.

I would like to help but I don't stay current on notebook technology any longer, really since I stopped selling them. I bought one for Mrs. Chandos a few years ago, but she never uses it, since she likes her IPhone and its many apps for cruising the net.

A few days ago she was scannning the bar codes on stuff in the kitchen with her IPhone, checking the prices. The apps for it are quite amazing.

I'd go with the Asus 1015PN.

Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't have either the Fusion version nor the AMD cored eeePCs on the screen. Which makes it more complicated for me. Either way, the new suggestions should reliably have better graphics than the Intel driven version I originally had in mind.

Any views on how well IE games are displayed on 10" or 12" screens? Are there screen resolution mods for that?

Its called the widescreen mod for IE games. And they have tweaked it to run on Netbooks which is what you are essentially looking at here so yes the games will work for them just fine.

And I take it that performance wise the eeePc will be up to the job?

Performance wise even my old Eee PC can handle it.

The 1015PN should have plentiful power, the resolution's the only real problem.

So the route for netbooks basically is, do I get that right:

    #1: Intel dual-core N550 + Nvidia Ion or
#2: AMD Fusion (preferrably dual core*)?

Now that'd be nice since I am in no hurry. The AMD's are just hitting the market.

    * I checked that, it appears that I can only get the dual core with the 12" version)

PS: Has anyone here seen comparative benchmarks of the two breeds?
