    [IMG] In the add-on "Dark Side of the Sword Coast", there was an very interesting note in the "Read Me" folder, that I TRY to follow, alas :

    << Special Addition!
    Baldur’s Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
    How to Do a Full Install on Mac

    Think it sucks that GraphSim didn’t give Mac users a full install option? Irritated by constantly having to swap CDs while playing Tales of the Sword Coast? Well, do so no more. =)
    The following is a work around that allows you to do a full install of TotSC on Macintosh and avoid having to swap CDs all the time [ though, you will still have to have one of the game’s CDs in your drive to play, which one it is doesn’t matter ].
    Note that a full install of TotSC will require approximately 2.7 gigs of hard drive space.
    Finally, this should work for Baldur’s Gate [ without TotSC ] as well. However, I have not tested this.
    DSotSC Note: If you want to do a full install and you’re going to install DSotSC, follow the instructions below BEFORE installing DSotSC. >>

    [ Then the instructions were following ].
    After my game WAS NO MORE RUNING:
    :(
    Then, there is an extract of the e-mail that I have attempted to send to :

    talisman@elladoria.com

    ... but alas the adress is no more valid, [ I am furious enough of that ! ] :
    :(
    << [...] — After being following exactly the procedure of your read me to make a FULL INSTALL of the 6 CD of Baldur's Gate & Tales of the Sword coast, the game dont run anymore.

    Now I cant no more play the game at all.

    HELP me, Please !

    It's one of my favourite games, and i dont want lose it.

    When I try to start the game, a pop-up burst 5 seconds after on my screen, saying that << Tales of the Sword Coast has "inoportunely" quited, because an error of type 2 was "unexpectedly occured" >>.

    Strangely, type 2 errors are often memory problems, if I am not mistaken.

    But 1) my hard disk has yet near 2 giga octets free ; 2) my "alive" memory is 576 Mo ; 3) my virtual memory was fixed to 577 Mo, (then a total of more 1,1 Go !) ; 4) the memory given to "Tales of the Sword Coast" application is 192.000 Ko (minimum was 48.000, adviced : 68.000 Ko). 5) stock of "cache memory" given by me to my computer, for fluidity of actions, was 8192 Ko. All was well until today !

    If you want know my system, I am on an old iMac which use Mac OS9, and I had never problems to run Tales of The Sword Coast, until today ! I call for you for a quick help !

    Note : [...] . Thank you. >>

    My non-missable mail then was ending.

    — If no one of you know the solution to my problem, I a going to put it on BG1 forum, but I think that, perhaps, this forum is the best for the question.

    Help me, please !

    Hmm... It might actually be helpful if you posted the exact instructions from that readme - it's difficult to say where the problem is without knowing which files have been changed.

    To Gorilym :

    — Folders of DATA and MOVIES or every of the 6 CD.

    The entire procedure is below :

    << […] The following is a work around that allows you to do a full install of TotSC on Macintosh and avoid having to swap CDs all the time [though, you will still have to have one of the game’s CDs in your drive to play, which one it is doesn’t matter].

    DSotSC Note: If you want to do a full install and you’re going to install DSotSC, follow the instructions below BEFORE installing DSotSC.

    1) Install Tales of the Sword Coast as you normally would.
    2) Put Baldur’s Gate Disk 1 in your CD drive.
    3) Scroll down and open the “CD1” folder.
    4) Drag the “Movies” folder to your installed “Game Data” folder.
    5) Open the “data” folder on the CD and drag its contents to the “Data”
    folder located in your installed “Game Data” folder. When asked, confirm
    that you wish to replace all of the duplicate items with the ones you are
    moving.

    6) Eject Disk 1 and put Baldur’s Gate Disk 2 in your CD drive.
    7) Open the “CD2” folder located on BG Disk 2.
    8) Open the “Movies” folder on the CD and drag its contents to the “Movies”
    folder located in your installed “Game Data” folder. When asked, confirm
    that you wish to replace all of the duplicate items with the ones you are
    moving.
    9) Open the “data” folder on the CD and drag its contents to the “Data”
    folder located in your installed “Game Data” folder. When asked, confirm
    that you wish to replace all of the duplicate items with the ones you are
    moving.

    10) Repeat steps 6-9 for BG Disks 3, 4, and 5, and the Tales of the Sword
    Coast CD

    11) Enjoy the game without CD swapping. =)

    […] talisman@elladoria.com >>

    Voilà ! ;)

    OK, most likely the problem is with the baldur.ini file - the problem may be as simple as needing to edit it to recognize the new location of the game data. I don't recall off-hand the exact BG1 path formatting, but if you post the current path section of your baldur.ini here I'll see what I can do. :)

    Some things to try: (make a backup of the baldur.ini first!)

    Cache size being set to 0 is perhaps strange, but it shouldn't be causing crashes - just in case, try setting it to 200 or thereabouts.

    If you still get the same error, try replacing

    Code:
    HD0:=x:.\
    CD1:=x:\BG Disc 1\CD1\
    CD2:=x:\BG Disc 2\CD2\
    CD3:=x:\BG Disc 3\CD3\
    CD4:=x:\BG Disc 4\CD4\
    CD5:=x:\BG Disc 5\CD5\
    CD6:=x:\BG TotSC\CD6\
    with

    Code:
    HD0:=x:.\
    CD1:=x:.\
    CD2:=x:.\
    CD3:=x:.\
    CD4:=x:.\
    CD5:=x:.\
    CD6:=x:.\
    If it still doesn't start up, try removing the lines that begin with CD1-CD6. If that doesn't work, tell me this: how many files are in the data folder, and how much space does that folder occupy?

    Come to think of it, the virtually duplicate Movie listings look odd as well. Another thing to try would be to remove the first section beginning with [Movies.

    — None of the suggested modifications works, alas :bad:

    [ None, including removing the first duplicate Movies listing, and neither my own idea about cache size (zero is probably only a code, here) :( ].

    • Now there are the others informations that you want :
    "Data" folder :
    Size : 2,18 Go, for exactly 2.347.653.218 octets
    Number of elements (files) : 152

    • I also give you the same infos for the only other folder which was weighted in the so-calling "Full install":

    "Movies" folder :
    Size : 260,5 Mo, for exactly 273.108. 062 octets
    Number of elements (files) : 36 (in .mov, or .bif).

    I try to keep hope ... :)

    Hmmm... The total figure for data is interesting. I have an archived complete BG1 data folder, and it's total size is 2.352.425.630 - a markedly different number (the figure for the movies folder is identical to yours). However, if you're using a french version of the game, that may be the sole reason for the difference. In any case, you'll most likely have to reinstall BG1 at this point. :( (make sure to backup any saved games you want to keep etc.)

    Instead of making a full install manually, I recommend using this program - it is mainly of use with BG1Tutu conversions, but it has a 'make full install' feature that works with regular BG1 as well.

    I dont situate wity precision where is your "full install feature" for "regular BG1" in the site you show to me, and I am afraid to infect my natural Tales of the Sword Coast with the "tutu" system, (you know that I have very little love for it).

    ... Besides, perhaps it is not YET the time to abandon our tries with the correction of the MANUAL Full Install :
    I am sure that it is only a silly minor point, which blockade the start of the game ! :sosad:

    WHY this pop-up of "Error Type 2" from my iMac, THAT IS the question, I think ! ...

    I agree with you on that point : it is probably a minor change to make in the Baldur.ini listing. But WHAT change ?!

    — Reflect a last time to that, Gorilym, please (and all the OTHERS "Informatic Masters" can ALSO make suggestions, it is not forbidden !).

    New thanks, again. :)

    Post-Scriptum : My original Baldur'Gate game was played in English. To my pleasant surprise, the extension Tales of Sword Coast has modified the entire game to be played in French ! The folders in CD6 must be in priority statute for language when I installed them, a long time ago. [ By the way, for further potential installs, dont forget I am in European zone ].
    For the Full Install I have tried, is it possible to have had a conflict beetween new files of CD 1 to 5 (initially not thought by creators to ever be installed !) and new files of CD 6 (same remark, + french adaptation) ???

    The problem with this error message is that like most pre-OS X error messages - it's highly generic. Type 2 is memory-related yes, but there's no real way of narrowing down what's causing it. Error messages like this can be described as the system saying: "well, something went wrong but I don't know what exactly - so here's a cryptic message for you to look at" :xx:

    [We are in the same time zone, so no worries there.] :)

    The fact that you are using a French TotSC with an English BG may indeed be the actual root of the problem - copying all the files from the CDs would necessarily have involved some overwriting, and an incompatibility may have been introduced by files from the French expansion overwriting files from the English base game. This would indeed also explain the difference in total size. Again, at this point I see little recourse but to reinstall from the CDs. :( If it were me, I'd avoid trying to assemble a "full install" - when you're combining different language editions, it's unfortunately bound to be troublesome.

    Unless this is some sort of Mac-specific thing, I think that's your problem right there. The HD0 line should be pointing to the folder that BG is installed in. (Typically "C:bad:Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate" for a PC, but I don't know how the Mac version does it.)

    The Mac baldur.ini uses relative rather than absolute paths - which is probably a Mac-specific thing. Not that it would hurt to try it, though.

    [IMG] — For all "Mac Masters", or persons very familiar with Apple systems, mainly before Mac Os X , ( "classic" systems ), I am throwing a call for HELP :
    :help:
    ... Since, in this stupid << Full Install >>, the TWO ONLY FOLDERS which were modified AND INCREASED in number were the folders MOVIES and DATA, there is a instant conclusion :
    • The only suspect list of items in the folder "Movies" is easily removable ;
    • If we try to leave apart, temporily, the idea of a modification in the "Baldur.ini" text, THEN :

    ... remain ONE solution :
    :idea:
    ... think that it is in the DATA folder that an hidden DUPLICATION or REDUNDANCE (not automatically in same name files !) cause a struggle beetwen two files (or several pairs of two ! ), because of a two-languages conflict, or other cause.
    :hmm:
    What are these files ?
    Since they are only 152, then there is a listing of the Data Folder :
