    Hey guys,

I ran into some problems with the unseeing eye quest.
I managed to solve them and decided to post my journey for the sake of others.

    The problem:
I got half of the rod from Amanuator down in the temple.
I went back up but couldn't find Gaal.
I think he may have died when I fought the lich guarding kangax' bones.
This left the game in a state unable to complete the unseeing eye quest.
I had no way of getting down to the beholder layer for the other part.

In the end I decided to try using CLUAConsole.
    I added "Cheats=1" & "Debug Mode=1" to "baldur.ini".
Unfortunately I couldn't open the console in the game.
Neither "ctrl + space" nor "ctrl + tab" worked.
Apparently on windows 7 "baldur.ini" is only read in compatibility mode.
I set compatibility mode to "XP Service Pack 2".
    This enabled the console.

Next problem, my save games disappeared in compatibility mode.
In compatibility mode the game reads save games from the installation dir.
I did a full filesystem search to find my save games. They were in:
    C:bad:Users\[user]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Baldurs Gate II\save
I copied the save games to my BGII installation dir in Program Files (x86).
Now I had access to the console and my save games.

I went to the place where the Lich was defeated and searched around.
I found the hidden door where the beholder lair exits using find traps.
    I opened the console: "CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys()"
I positioned the mouse above the hidden door and hit "ctrl + J".
This teleported me to the other side of the hidden door.
Next I could simply enter the beholder lair and complete the quest.

    Hope this helps someone.

Moral of the story: don't kill Gaal!
