So here it is. We all know them, but which is your favourite purely instrumental song? Songs like Terminal Frost by Pink Floyd and Surfing like an Alien by Joe Satriani, while very good are still beaten by far by my personal favourite, imho. A song by Alex and Eddie Van Halen called Respect the Wind. I haven't heard it anywhere else besides the end of the film Twister, so I downloaded it on MP3. Soooooooo good.

Moby Dick - John Henry Bonham's Opus and probably the best drum solo ever
Any colour you like - Pink Floyd
Concerto for Rock band and Orchestra - Jon Lord (Deep Purple)
    The Snow Goose - Camel
    Nyana - Tiesto
For An Angel - Paul van Dyk
    Adagio for Strings - Tiesto

DS, you should hear Buddy Rich. He was described as 'The greatest drummer to have ever drawn breath.' His 'Stick Trick' is considered by many experts to be the best drum solo of all time.

    For rock:
Little Wing -- Stevie Ray Vaughn
While We Cry -- Kenny Wayne Shephard

The best instrumentals come from jazz: Buddy Rich, Theloneous Monk, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and The Bird are my favorites.

Hmm, I forgot about Samuel Barber's adagio for strings. That is very very good.

Chuck Mangione, Feels so Good has always been a favorite.
    I love Mozart's piano works.
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, is a beautiful song, not sure on the author.
