Since fantasy is the theme here, I thought it only convenient to mention of another very good site where you can stream an immense range of fantasy music 24/7. Go try it, I find it most amusing to listen to the music found there while browsing SP for example. :)

I'm also interested in general, which bands / musical pieces / soundtracks, in your opinion, passes for good fantasy related music worth getting?

Personally my list at the moment, as for the last year or so, is this:

Lord of the Rings: FoTR & TTT (OST)

Lord of the Rings (Remix) - contains loads of crud, but some real gems that have nothing to do with other LoTR music and can be found nowhere else

Last of the Mohicans: (OST) - one song in particular

Songs from artists / bands like:

    'Enya' and 'Enigma'

And the works of a piano player / music composer called Michael Nyman. He was largely responsible for the soundtrack for the movie 'Piano', and has made several fantasy melodies with piano.

I've also heard of 'Summoning' and 'Avantasia' very recently, but haven't heard their songs yet. Please do post your preferences, I am running out of good songs afterall. And check Radio Rivendell, it's a good place.

I find that some of the tracks from Delerium are quite conducive to fantasy.

One in particular, "Incantation" would make a great score for fantasy with a Native American theme.

Tangerine Dream is always good, especially their soundtrack to the movie "Legend." David Arkenstone and Ray Lynch are rather more New-Agey but still rather fantasy oriented. If the cut from "Last of the Mohicans" you like is the one by Clannad, they have a lot out (and you probably know that Enya is their sister). Capercaeilie has much the same jazzy, Celtic-inspired feel that does later Clannad.

Loreena McKennit's tunes are perfect for any fantasy delving!

Also, the London Philharmonic's remix of some Pink Floyd songs is about as close as you can get to fantasy music. I always listen to it while reading something particularly fantastic.

Another good artist is Amon Tobin. He's from Canada, so I don't know if you'd be able to get his music anywhere (except illegally, of course). He mostly does chill music, and some of his stuff is really infulanced by Eastern music. It's really relaxing and good for those easy trips through fantasy worlds.

David Arkenstone is the favorite here. Check out "the celtic book of days" and "return of the guardians", two of his best.

I've always thought that the Final Fantasy (game wise) Music score is quite good and fitting.

Anyone heard of a group called "Era" ? Their stuff is.. interesting. Mixes Latin lyrics with some other languiages, has interesting choir stuff and is utterly indescribable.

    I wish I hadn't lost my albums :(
