[IMG] So, looks like our good friends the hype-masters at IGN, have followed up their 12 page preview of Fable up with an 8-page review of it here

I was surprised to see that an RPG with real-time combat and no dialogue tree got a 9.3, but meh.

The last paragraph pretty much sums it up:

Fable's freedom is allowing you to play how you want, to make your own choices as to how you will reach the climactic battle at the end of your adventure. You will be a hero, but you can be noble like Galahad, a rogue like Robin Hood, or a tyrant like Genghis Kahn. There's not a lot to the main story, but the path to reach its conclusion is full of extras, including secrets, a bevy of collected stats (including how many times you've gotten wasted), and a giant sandbox world to mess around in. It's very difficult to enter this world without thinking about the promises made (but not kept), all of the things that once had everyone so desperately hyped for Fable, but if you can go in with an open mind, I think you'll find a game that will become one of your treasured Xbox favorites.

    Comments anyone?

God that game looks good! I can't wait until it comes out. It comes out the week after my birthday, which sucks.

I think its pretty XBox exclusive at the moment. The PC might be a possibility in the future, ala Halo.

Eh, this is just a hyped up action-adventure game with lots of superficial character customization.

Hardly the "Greatest RPG of All Time".

It's gona RULE! Have faith. I've been waiting for this for ages too, and in todays game market, something like this looks real refreshing.
    Wootage.

One of the sad disadvantages of releasing a game on console. The inability to patch it and correct errors.

Without doubt it will be ported to PC, X-Box being so similar to it. What I'm thinking is that will it be a half-hearted copy (like Thief 3 and DeusEx 2) or a full-time port.

I reckon it'll just be copied exactly the way it is on the PC, and then maybe they can patch the problems it had on the console...and pitch it as some sort of upgraded version or something.

It would be nice if it was released for the PC so someone could mod it so magic doesn't age you, and you don't go bald from being evil.

I don't think a game like this could succeed on PC. Could it? It's only like 20-40 hours of gameplay and modding tools would be hard to come by. The previous big console ports DX:IW and Thief 3 sucked, would this be any different?

Point...but I can't help thinking after reading the review, that this game could have been like Morrowind, only MUCH more awesome. :(

From what i have read in New York Times today (yes, this game is big time!), they gave a pretty attracting description for this game. The developer is Lionheart studio (which made Black and White) whose lead previously own Bullfrog (which made Dungeon Keeper). Black and White was big before it came out but then serious bugs de-valued game generally. It was not well polished. B&W had great concept, good interface but the gameplay, the purpose of playing the game is somewhat pointless. There is no need to keep our breath. If it is a ground breaking, once in a life time great game, i am sure we can play it on pc sometime later. If it is not, why care?

Still more than a game with poses replacing dialogue deserves in my opinion. Lame.

I think this looks awesome. Hope its not bug riddled like a certain other RPG on XBOX. *cough* morrowind *cough*. Although it was still enjoyable.

Played it. It's nothing special. I've seen more advanced combat from AGES ago (Die by the Sword anyone?) and you don't have as much freedom as the game boasts. You actually can't be an evil guy because there are some main story missions that force you to do a good deed (i.e. save a child from bandits) in order to progress the story.

Your chracter changes depending on your skills and alignment? Seen it before in Evil Islands. All the different clothing you can wear? Seen that in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Possibly the only ground breaking things were the stances instead of dialogue for your PC. But we've seen similar in Black and White where you don't tell your creature that doing something is a bad thing, you simply hit them. The other 'innovation' was scarring on the main character, it was fun for a bit but I think the effect is too extreme on your appearance/beauty type rating. Sometimes a scar can actually give someone character without making them look ugly.

Over-hyped action-adventure with limited character customisation (you HAVE to be male and human, wow, what 'freedom').

Stances instead of dialogue? Return to Zork from 10 years ago had that.
