[IMG] Some of us mentioned experience based spawns in BG2 trully unrelated to lich locations topic on http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001944.html

So, I installed BG2 again and did some research about it. The whole thing is a spoiler so don't read if you decided to skip spoilers. Can't remember official patch version I got, but BGmain.exe properties reads version "2, 0, 0, 2", so if something is missing, please add.

BG2 contains 12 different spawn triggers based on experience. These triggers are in fact traps with detection and removal difficulty 100 and you'll have to discover their exact positions in area by yourself. Spawns depend on these protagonist's experience itervals:
    min - 399.999 spawn1
    400.000 - 999.999 spawn2
    1.000.000 - 1.999.999 spawn3
    2.000.000 - max spawn4

12 possible triggers are spawning monsters as follows:

    1. Beholder spawn
    spawn1 1 Gauth
    spawn2 3 Gauths
    spawn3 2 Gauths, 1 Beholder
    spawn4 2 Gauths, 3 Beholders

    2. Undead spawn
    spawn1 1 Skeleton Warrior, 2 Shadows
    spawn2 2 Skeleton Warriors, 2 Shadow Fiends
spawn3 2 Skeleton Warriors, 1 Greater Mummy, 1 Bone Golem
    spawn4 2 Skeleton Warriors, 2 Greater Mummys, 1 Lich

    3. Drow spawn (all creatures are Drow)
    spawn1 2 Warrior, 1 Wizard, 1 Priestess
    spawn2 3 Warriors, 1 Priestess (but harder than spawn1)
    spawn3 1 Warrior, 1 Wizard, 4 Priestesses
    spawn4 1 Wizard, 6 Priestesses

    4. Golem spawn
    spawn1 1 Stone Golem
    spawn2 2 Stone Golems
spawn3 2 Stone Golems, 1 Iron Golem, 1 Clay Golem
    spawn4 2 Stone Golems, 1 Adamantite Golem

    5. Illithid spawn
    spawn1 1 Mind Flayer
    spawn2 2 Mind Flayers
    spawn3 2 Mind Flayers, 1 Ulitharid, 1 Umberhulk
    spawn4 1 Mind Flayer, 3 Ulitharids, 2 Umberhulks

    6. Mix spawn
    spawn1 1 Fire Salamander, 1 Ice Salamander
    spawn2 1 Fire Salamander, 1 Ice Salamander, 1 Yuan-Ti Mage
    spawn3 1 Minotaur, 5 Umberhulks
    spawn4 2 Yuan-Ti, 1 Greater Yuan-Ti, 3 Yuan-Ti Mages

    7. Orc and Rakshasa spawn low
    spawn1 3 Orc Warriors, 1 Orog, 1 Orc Priest
    spawn2 2 Orc Warriors, 2 Orogs, 1 Orc Priest, 1 Orc Mage
    spawn3 1 Orc Warrior, 2 Orogs, 1 Orc Priest, 1 Ruhk, 1 Rakshasa
    spawn4 4 Orogs, 1 Rajah, 1 Maharajah

    8. Orc and Rakshasa spawn high
    spawn1 1 Rakshasa
    spawn2 2 Rakshasa, 3 Ogre
    spawn3 2 Orogs, 2 Ruhks, 1 Rajah
    spawn4 2 Rajahs, 2 Maharajahs

    9. Kuo-Toa spawn (all creatures are Kuo-Toa)
    spawn1 3 Warriors
    spawn2 4 Warriors, 1 Whip, 1 Monitor
    spawn3 1 Warrior, 1 Lieutenant, 1 Priest, 1 Wizard, 1 Whip, 1 Monitor
    spawn4 1 Warrior, 1 Priest, 1 Wizard, 1 Whip, 3 Monitors

    10. Troll spawn
    spawn1 1 Troll, 2 Ice Trolls
    spawn2 4 Trolls
    spawn3 3 Trolls, 1 Giant Troll, 1 Spectral Troll
    spawn4 5 Trolls (3 fast ones)

    11. Vampire spawn
    spawn1 2 Vampires
    spawn2 5 Vampires
spawn3 6 Vampires (1 immune to +2 weapons and lower)
spawn4 6 Vampires (3 immune to +2 weapons and lower)

    12. Wolfwere spawn
    spawn1 2 Wolfweres
    spawn2 4 Wolfweres
    spawn3 3 Wolfweres, 2 Dread Wolfs, 1 Greater Wolfwere
    spawn4 2 Dread Wolfs, 1 Greater Wolfwere

These are areas you'll find experience based triggers (can't remember area names, so I used descriptions):

    1. Temple District catacombs where statue hand grows from earth
    Unseeing Eye's Keep
Beholder Base entered from Underdark (two triggers)

    2. Hut near Unseeing Eye's Keep where undead dwell
Ruined Temple underground to find Shadow Lord (two triggers)
Second area of Spellhold Dungeon (where kobolds worship a crystal)

    3. Underdark

    4. Inside Plannar sphere
Power Core area of Plannar Sphere (two triggers)
Maze that leads to Firkraag's Lair (two triggers)
    Suldanessellar (two triggers)

    5. In Illithid Base entered from Underdark (two triggers)

    6. Plannar Prison (two triggers)
Mekrath's Keep entered from Temple District sewers
    First area of Spellhold dungeon

    7. couldn't find it anywhere

    8. Suldanessellar

    9. Underdark
Kuo-Toa Base entered from Underdark (here is exit to surface also)

    10. D'Arnise Stronghold in performing Nalia's quest (one on ground floor, one on first floor)
    Area with Druid Grove

    11. Bodhi's lair when you return to deal her for good (two triggers)
Maze that leads to Firkraag's Lair

    12. Maze that leads to Firkraag's Lair

There is also XP related spawn that is triggered when you enter underground at Ruined Temple to find Shadow Lord (I think you must be ranger for this). Besides other monsters you'll find these depending of experience:
    300.000 - 999.999 2 Fire Salamanders, 1 Wraith, 1 Skeleton Warrior
    1.000.000 - max 2 Spectres, 1 Wraith, 1 Glabrezu

Sorry for shitty looking of this message, but AI replaced all my TABs with one simple SPACE. Damn!

Excellent, it makes a lot of sense however. These spawns should be based on XP to make it more challenging. In fact some of those spawn4's should pop up for a low level party occasionally, to make BG2 more difficult!

    Great job there.

Wow, great job! How did you find out? Are you a programmer yourself or something? All pieces fall in their places with this!
