Have been looking a bit on this game and is thinking about buying it. I am a sucker for Rome but have never really played the EU series except very briefly where iirc I did enjoy it quite a bit but it was many years ago. Anyone picked it up and have any views?

No idea about Rome, but played EU1, EU2 and Crusaders. Played Hearts of Iron and disliked it, but the game was very peculiar. Crusaders was the most fun of all. Rome should be great. By all means you shouldn't regret the purchase if you make it. It should be worth the risk of time investment as well. ;)

Bought it , have played it a lot. It is fun but I am getting peeved at the extreme difficulty of actually getting anywhere with armed conflicts. It is neigh impossible to actually conquer enemy lands especially if the enemy is any sizable empire. They can have 0 money and still crank out troops and you can hold half their regions and still they refuse to give up anything in a peace.

I'm a huge Paradox fan but Rome is by far the weakest.

Seeing as how Rome isn't much more advanced than the first EU game I played years and years ago I wonder if they have done much at all in their different installments. You spend most of your tmie watching hte months go by, reminds me of the old Championship manager games where 2/3 of the game experience was watching loading screens. I still enjoy it a bit but EU: Rome feels like a game that might as well have been released 10 years ago. Even the strategic map in Rome: TW is more complex than the one in EU: Rome and EU is all about the strategic map. It has given me more than 10h of entertainment already and I can probably crank out at least 10 more but after that I think it is done. It lacks depth.
