DDO Vault has interviewed Elaine Cunningham, the famous Forgotten Realms novelist and the creator of Arilyn Moonblade and Danilo Thann. Here's a snip:

I'm a fan of your books, and I really enjoy the characters you've introduced. I'm also a fan of the characters R.A. Salvatore has created. It struck me that the characters from both yours and his books have inhabited the same world for years now, and never met. Would you ever consider teaming up with Salvatore to create an adventure featuring the starring characters from both your books?

First, thanks for the kind words. Your question is one I’ve encountered frequently. People seem particularly interested in a meeting between Drizzt and Liriel. Bob Salvatore and I are of the same opinion on this matter: It’s not going to happen.

It seems odd to some readers that Liriel Baenre and Drizzt came from the same city, yet have never met. When you think in real-world terms, that’s not so unusual. Menzoberranzan is home to over twenty thousand drow, which is the population of a good-sized town. Also, Drizzt was long gone and his House was wiped out before Liriel came of age. There’s no real reason for her to have ever heard of him, and any coincidental meeting on the surface would be too, well, coincidental. These two drow have very little in common other than their race, and their personalities would be in conflict from the start—and not in a good way.
