well i was thinking of editing miscs profiencies to duel wielding flails, didn't want to waste my flial of the ages, So i was wandering if anyone knows a reaslistic number. I was thinking 4*(flail) 2*(2 weapon style), I belive misc is unable to get grand master, or even more then 3*(flail)?

(i don't want over powered chars, i jsut want to edit him enf so it was as though i was pumping flails only, since the start of the game,.)

-got to love these forums :) .

I think rangers automatically start off with *** in Two Weapon Fighting Style, and can only become Specialised (**) in all other weapons and styles. I'm not too sure though. :bad:

Moon Elf is correct, Ranger can have 3 points on "Two Weapon Fighiting Style" and 2 points for everthing else.

Minsc, right? He's a ranger, so he can only specialize in weapons. As for dual weapon style, I forget if he can have three stars there or not.

    Looks like I've been beaten.

It's a bug in the game that only single/dual-classed fighters can get *** in Two Weapon Style. Baldurdash fixes that, though.

Rangers can have 3* in 2 weapon fighting style in the game without Baldurdash. I believe it was fixed for those multiclass fighters such as Jaheira, R/C and F/T, etc.

Should you want to edit Minsc's proficiencies with SK, give him:

    Flails **
    Two weapon style ***

I don't know what to do with the other 3* he gets.

See what you do is you get somebody to Mod Boo into a magical item that makes 5 or 10 darts once a day that are called "Attack of the Miniature Giant Space Hamster" That when used it does oh say 1d5+3 damage and reduces their ac by 2 for 2 turns while they dance around going "ewwww! Get it Off! Get it Off!"

then you put points in darts.

Darts. No way! Though normal darts have a base of 3 attack/round, and they do transfer high STR damage. I am afraid magical darts are buggy as they don't allow STR damage AFAIK. :p

You can have Minsc using Celestial Fury (katana), or Crom Faeyr (hammer) or whatever appropriate, he will excel in everything with his brutal STR. Just make sure other NPCs have their own weapons (for example, a weak cleric like Viccy will really enjoy Crom Faeyr) then give rest over to Minsc for his off-hand!

I picked Darts because they would signify a thrown Boo as a weapon... ~snickers~

Minsc was proficient in flails in BG1 (I also had him proficient in axes for the throwing axe later in the game -- I think bows should just be too complicated for him).

    You could SK him to:

** flails (flail of ages, defender of easthaven)
** long swords (lots of good choices)
** axes (Azuredge -- he's better than an undead slayer with this).

Give him the third two weapon proficiency at 9th level.

Take a look at the defender of easthaven if you want him dualing flails, it's an excellent off-hand weapon.

Make sure he cannot be charmed when you fight vampires (helm of charm protection).

As T2Bruno alludes to, Minsc is an excellent dual-wielding mobile weapons platform once you get enough proficiency points to fill things out. There are plenty of great one-handed weapons (in SOA at least) for him to choose from, especially long swords (if CHARNAME isn't using them), but also flails and axes in particular. You can get some very good +2 flails early on from the Temple sewers and from the first part of the Copper Coronet quest, and you can also buy some very good axes at the Coronet too.

With two weapon style you make all your normal attacks with your main hand. You also get ONE attack with your off hand.

Typically, you want to have a weapon which gives good bonuses in the off hand. Examples are Defender of Easthaven (weapon resistances and AC bonus), Belm (gives an additional attack with your main hand), Sword of Balduran (magic resistance), Equalizer (immune to charm and confusion), Crom Faeyr (25 strength).

I would consider both Celestial Fury and Flail of Ages to be main hand weapons. You may be better off giving them to two different fighters. Valygar is good with katanas and is a ranger.

Off-hand weapon only gets one attack per round no matter what. So give a weapon with a continual bonus just by equipping it, NOT upon striking an enemy. Celestial Fury is a very bad choice for an off-hand weapon.

Crom Faeyr is THE off-hand weapon. 25 STR gives you massive bonuses, +7 to hit, +14 to damage, with each hit!

Look for other weapons with defensive powers, resistances, or special abilities. These are good enough for off-hand. If a weapon does nasty things to an enemy upon striking, (CF forces save vs spells or stun, occasional 20 points of electrical damage, while FoA does all kinds of elemental damage and slows without save) those weapons are better suited for the main hand!
